[edit]

I cut the following from the Wikipedia Harry Gordon Selfridge article as irrelevant and thought its information would already be in Galen Weston but it is not and as the number of generations seems contradicted I have parked the cutting here that those who know and care may tussle with it. The three articles Selfridges, Harry Gordon Selfridge, and Galen Weston need to be made consistent. Perhaps all history of the store should appear only as a link on Harry Gordon Selfridge.

"The Weston family wealth started with a bakery his great-grandfather - a cockney transplanted to Canada - started. Through the years, the dough has risen: Weston is reputedly worth $6 billion CAD. His last big deal prior to buying Selfridges was a $1 billion USD buyout of BestFoods bakeries from Unilever in 2001"--SilasW 12:05, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IRA kidnapping attempt

[edit]

I think it's important to mention the IRA attempted kidnapping in the 80s.

Place of Residence

[edit]

Grmike added a statement to this article that the Weston's "official residence" (whatever that is?) is in Toronto and added this reference to an article in the Irish Times which, in fact, contradicts the statement and says that they reside in London. This is further supported by this Wikipedia article on Fort Belvedere in Surrey. I've requested a reference that supports his statement that they reside in Toronto but nothing has appeared to date. are you saying that even when his wife was governor general of ontario their official residence was in london ? I guess this is where I'm suppose to apologize for assuming Canada's second wealthiest family, the one that founded and still owns the nation's dominant supermarket chain has an 'official residence' in canada.Grmike (talk) 21:07, 29 April 2020 (UTC)grmike[reply]

[1] this' is the article I referred to in my first and only revert of your revert of my original edit. in the comment section I said : if they were based in london they'd make the Forbes' billionaire list as British citizens NOT Canadian citizens. the family was always Canadian which is and was always true. as you can see, a forbes billionaires link was already used on the page and I pointed to that as proof of an "official residence" in Toronto. my only revert was reverting your undoing of that post. They made the latest billionaire list with only Toronto mentioned under the residence category. and even if you decide that is not good enough and continue to ignore the policy Wikipedia:Assume good faith and delete my contributions without reservation allthewhile charging me with vandalism, I still would not do the same to you a fellow wikipedian when the edit differences are as minor as whether a billionaire supermarket owner who grew up in canada, raised his family in canada, whose wife was governer general of the province, and whose son has embraced his role as chairman, would maintain an official residence in the city in which he raised his family.Grmike (talk) 21:39, 29 April 2020 (UTC)grmike[reply]
[2] n the mid-1980s the Westons, who are based in Toronto, decided to build a vacation house in Florida. When they counted up all their relatives and friends who might also like to escape the Canadian winter, they determined that 416 acres would be about right - so they are going to florida to escape the canadian winter ... but no official residence in canada eh ?Grmike (talk) 21:58, 29 April 2020 (UTC)grmike[reply]

It would have saved a lot of time and energy if you'd looked for and provided the references to support your addition to the article at the start especially given that the reference you added stated something different. Looking at your past edits you appear to be adding Canada to a number of articles and a lot of the time what you add is not supported by any reference or you synthasise a different meaning from a reference. The text as it stands now with your latest changes and references is OK with me now. HighKing++ 11:34, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
[3] this reference was already on the article when I made the first revert. I pointed to it in the edit comment section.Grmike (talk) 06:17, 1 May 2020 (UTC)grmike[reply]
