Atom and Shabaab are separate[edit]

Atom's militia is a sub-clan and territory based protection/extortion racket. His fighters eat Chat / Khat and don't wear Islamic dress and beards. And do all the bad things like all other war lord militia. During and before the Galgala campaign a handful of Shabaab operated from within Atom's area, probably initially with his consent, but likely outside his control. Very likely neither like each others political ideas and neither took any orders from the other. They just shared an enemy and used the same land.

Unless proven that at that time Atom was part of Shabaab leadership, the article should make clear that Shabaab and Atom were (and still are) two separate organizations.

It also means that the Galgala campaign was collective punishment on the wrong people, because both Atom and Shabaab had (temporaly) fled when the campaign started.

The article should in my opinion also feature an estimate of military and civilian casualties, (probably high) and of the lasting impact. (probably none.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pieter Felix Smit (talkcontribs) 06:32, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
