Gamal Lineveldt was Malay?!

This sentence in the article is quite odd:

"He was asked to try and locate him and, on 16 March, the boy directed the detectives to the Gaiety Theatre in Wynberg, where they arrested Gamal Salie Lineveldt, a 23-year-old Malay man of small stature and slender build."
