Dab cleanup?

[edit]

The accompanying main-namespace page was tagged as an incomplete Dab, and i think that tag does reflect some insight into the actual disposition that's called for: the page is explicit in saying that the links are of 3 kinds, and that a 4th (but linkless) sense of the same Hebrew word exists. It could thus be divided into 3 or 4 SIA &/or other articles, tho it appears that none of the existing links belongs in a Dab. Those 3 or 4 would call for -- depending on

* whether the Gaon (Hebrew) residue, at the end of splitting, just evaporates or turns into an article on a language article on the Hebrew word Gaon (and perhaps on its Yiddish and Ladino derivatives), and
* whether there is any encyclopedic content available for the 4th, currently linkless Hebrew sense of Gaon

-- 3 to 5 entries on the Dab Gaon. IMO at least 1st and 3rd results of the split (currently bullets 1 and 3) should be SIA pages.
IMO no good can come of merging the page as if it were simply in incomplete Dab'n, & i'm removing that tag.

Split?

[edit]

I tagged for splitting without specifying what to split into, and tagged as a WP:SIA even tho i think there is material requiring at least two SIAs (or broader articles) already there. One could perhaps be Leadership of medieval Jewish theological academies, and another perhaps Gaonim of post-medieval Europe. Most editors are probably like me in needing more background in the subject area in order to do more than guess about what should happen. Should be a great opportunity for those who know what they're talking about to contribute.
