Lack of notability and references[edit]

Gary Barrett did not make Marquis Who's Who which, as he is living, is an indication that if notable, he is marginally so. This article lacks references, so notability is hard to show. The award that he received does not have an article, nor does the organization that awarded it. Gary Barrett is mentioned as "the Odum professor in UGA's Institute of Ecology" in a November 23, 2002 article in The Augusta Chronicle (page B-2) about Mr. Odum and his gift of 25 acres along the Middle Oconee River in Clarke County, and, in passing, in other 2002 reports on the death of University of Georgia professor Eugene Odum. --Bejnar (talk) 19:19, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I did not find news coverage of his 2001 Distinguished Landscape Ecologist Award, but I did find news coverage for others who've won it. --Bejnar (talk) 13:50, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As the chair of a department at a major university, the subject seems to meet criterion #5 at WP:PROFTEST. This seems to be an assertion of notability and negates the grounds for a speedy deletion, in my opinion. --Kinu t/c 01:17, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
