covers some of the instructions to Edward's negotiators at the papal court. — LlywelynII 13:11, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LlywelynII: Given that this war was not restricted to Gascony, please revert your move and open an RM. It is not clear that the term "Gascon War" refers to the wider war and not just the Gascon campaign (1294–1303). Srnec (talk) 13:52, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Srnec: The English campaigns in Flanders were only in support of Gascony, but that's beside the point anyway. Use Google Ngram for yourself. "Anglo-French War" with any form of the dates doesn't show up at all in their corpus, whereas Gascon War does for centuries. Obviously, if you can find things from Oxford, Cambridge, etc. that use "Gascon War" separately to distinguish the Gascon campaign from the Flemish one, fair enough. Then it just becomes how widespread that distinguishing actually is. As is, there was no source for the previous name and it doesn't show up on Ngram at all, so the move is valid even without pulling in WP:NATURALDAB, which would also be entirely valid.
That said, you're right that currently the Flemish and Gascon campaign articles have plenty of content that should be covered here as well. You're welcome to start that when you've got time. — LlywelynII 14:12, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
