Internet Meme Status

I think something should be added to this article about how Gaston has become something of an internet meme. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.56.52.29 (talk) 20:23, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Items like that do not belong on Wikipedia, per WP:MOS. Cactusjump (talk) 17:48, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Gaston's wanting of boys

I know I might be asking a stupid question, but why does Gaston want Belle to have sons? Why does he call Belle his "little wife"? --User:Angie Y.

Because it's an extreme example of the mindset of the time. Women were seen as possessions of men and siring children (in wedlock, of course) was the highest achievement ordinary men could do, no doubt helped by the Christian God's request to propagate and evolutionary pressure. Gaston wanted Belle specifically because she was the most beautiful, thus the best, and he believed he deserved the best. Their hypothetical children most likely being attractive helped, too. Good genes with good genes and all. ' (Feeling chatty? ) (Edits!) 03:32, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Good point. In the musical version, Gaston says "We'll be raising sons galore/Each built six foot four", so you can guess what gender the kids will be. And actually, this mindset has been around for countless centuries, even during the early 20th century. It's not that way now though. --User:Angie Y.

Kingdom Hearts Section

Since Gaston does not appear in any Kingdom Hearts game, should this bit be included at all? It seems to be just fanfic, which hardly strikes me as encyclopedic. Is there any reason this section should remain?

I think it should. Gaston was the main antagonist of BatB but still didn't feature in KH2. He was an important character, not like Maurice or D'Arque.
Oh, I think it's worth noting that despite his high standing as a Disney villain, he's not included, but I don't think that "Inverted Hearts" should be mentioned, much less pictured, as it's purely a fan product.
Well, actually, it's not really what you'd call a fan product. It's more like a game whose production was cancelled, since there are a few screenshots from Inverted Hearts here [1]. Wanna take a look? Jienum 18:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't see how that means it isn't a fan product. A fan product is something that is developed by fans, and fangames are no excepticon. Fangames have been deleted from wikipedia before simply because they're fancruft. So has the former KHIH page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kingdom_Hearts_Inverted_Hearts 172.143.33.233 23:00, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, as long as it is stated in the Trivia Section that he is not included in KH2 despite being the main villain of the film, that's alright. I just want it to say that he was not included on KH2. That's all. Jienum 11:34, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Buffet of Manliness

What the hell is that nonsense crap supposed to mean? Jienum 13:51, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

It's apparently in reference to his status as a 4chan meme, Encyclopedia Dramatica has more info. I'd link you but they upset the wrong people here so they're blacklisted and I can't link them- just put .com on the end of the site name and search for Gaston --L T Dangerous 01:18, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Maison de Lune

Maison de Lune does not mean Asylum for Loons. It means 'Moon House' in French. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.103.11.210 (talk) 19:29, 4 January 2007 (UTC).

  • Well, Mr. Anonymous, the film only refers to the madhouse as the Asylum for Loons. There is no mention whatsoever of a Maison des Lunes, so the French meaning can be deleted. Asylum for Loons is the true name of the madhouse in the film. Jienum 17:07, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Well Jienum, the film was not the original story. And the French meaning cant be "deleted", the story is based in France. It might not be mentioned in the film but it is mentioned in other stories. *** — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.112.110.82 (talk) 17:53, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

What does the pig represent?

--69.19.179.70 19:27, 9 May 2007 (UTC)When Gaston falls in the mud near the beginning of the film, there is a pig on his head. Was this added for humor, or does it have a meaning?

Could it be that the pig represented his pig-headedness? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.19.179.152 (talk) 23:44, 11 May 2007 (UTC).

I think it was there just because pigs like mud. 68.164.84.120 (talk) 18:26, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Sigh... we don't even know if Gaston died or if he survived!

guys, can somebody please revert the final fate part back to the part where it was said that Gaston's final fate is debatable by fans of beauty and the beast? i mean, look, we cannot rely on percentages and statistics of likeliness that he perished from the fall (and even if we could, it is original research. Ok, so technically the last edit was OR as well, but at least there could be people who think that.). Otherwise, his lackey, LeFou would have perished several times by now (Let's see, he got knocked away by Gaston (BTW, Lefou is barely even bigger than Gaston's own fist), got crushed by that antler chair of Gaston's, and survived for several months buried in the snow.). Also, need I Remind you that Ariel from The Little Mermaid survived a several hundred feet fall down a whirlpool/Maelstorm in the climax of Her Film? I'm not saying that he did indeed survive, i'm just saying that we really shouldn't say that he died either, considering these points, hence the part that we should leave it at the part that Gaston's final fate is debatable by fans in BatB, and thus it is currently Unknown.

I could not have said that in a better way. At least SOMEBODY understands me. Jienum 16:10, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Okay, when he falls, there are skulls in his eyes, and the creators said this was implying that he was going to hell. Therefor, he probably died. 68.164.84.120 (talk) 18:26, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Several other characters (even Pokemon) had skulls in their eyes (mostly when they were being electrocuted, but still), and they survived nonetheless. Weedle McHairybug.

I heard that they were going to make a sequel in which Gaston's brother, Avenant, comes looking for revenge. Maybe that indicates that Gaston died. Jienum (talk) 13:50, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, OK so Belle means Beauty (french to English trans.) soooo does Gaston's name mean anything when you translate it to english?

...

No, it doesn't. Gaston's just a French name, like Gaston Lagaffe. Jienum 22:12, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Am I being a paranoid fangirl, or could Gaston's name be a silent reference/tribute to the Phantom of the Opera? Admittedly it'd be a lousy tribute. NightMaj (talk) 03:31, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Gaston2.jpg

Image:Gaston2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Tsukasani Matsumoto?

Hi, I was just reading this article and noticed that "Tsukasani Matsumoto" is listed as his seiyuu for the Japanese dub. Where does that name come from? I can read some kanji, and could translate the 「松本」Matsumoto part of the name listed on the Japanese article, but where does the Tsukasani come from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.186.50.47 (talk) 16:46, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

So... Can we PLEASE take it out of Protection now?

I mean, I need to add that thing back in (the debate of Gaston's death, I mean). I mean, YES, it may have been OI for it to be in there, but the part saying that Gaston died is ALSO OI as well (as a matter of fact, even MORESO than that, since there have been countless unverified deaths in regards to falls (Big Time), and several More cases of the character in question having survived (Jessie James and Meowth, Ariel, Keitaru, Coyote, Batman, Harley Quinn, ect.). and I can't do it since it's under protection. Weedle McHairybug. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.32.128.224 (talk) 11:20, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Why did they redirect it?

Honestly, Why did they redirect it? I mean, He's the main villain of the movie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.32.165.13 (talk) 11:47, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

  • I've put it back to the way it was. Some people dislike Gaston too much. I know this, because they don't touch other pages about characters who aren't as notable as Gaston. Jienum (talk) 13:09, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
    • Another thing, if we must remove Gaston just for his being in one work, we should also remove Ursula as well, as she also didn't appear in any movie works, either. I mean, other than House of Mouse, and four episodes of the TV series, she didn't really appear in a MAIN role anywhere else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.32.165.13 (talk) 21:03, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Gaston's brother???

I heard a rumour going about that they were going to make a sequel to the film and include Avenant, this time Gaston's brother, as the villain, but they scrapped it. Anyone heard about it? Because if it was true, then maybe Gaston DID die in the film, which would be why Avenant wanted revenge. Jienum (talk) 13:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Bruce Campbell resemblance

I was watching this movie tonight and was thinking what actors would play the characters should they make a motion picture of this. Gaston reminded me a lot of Bruce Campbell. Does anyone reckon they based the character on him? -Depor23 (talk) 14:26, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Merge proposal

I come with this proposal to merge Gaston into the list of Beauty and the Beast characters as he has not managed to prove Notability outside the Beauty and the Beast universe. Unlike Belle and Beast, his appearances are limited. As the article is short, there would be no loss of content with this merger; it would be almost entirely moved to the list. Thoughts? --LoЯd ۞pεth 22:17, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

As there was no opposition in a week and also there was no improvement of the article by adding a vast amount of reliable secondary sources that discuss the character to prove notability, or individual appearances in media to show impact on popular, the content of the article has been entirely merged into the list of characters. --LoЯd ۞pεth 19:09, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
