Movie?

[edit]

Have they givin up on the movie? I seached it and got redirected here.--киошledge ßяīиgs ƒæя 15:56, 5 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by KnowledgeBringsFear (talkcontribs)

COG

[edit]

After a violent 79-year war, the humans created the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) to bring peace to the planet, using its forces, called "Gears" to maintain peace.

I could have sworn that I read somewhere that the COG was around before the Pendulum Wars, but that they were a very minor group. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 11:11, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, I didn't imagine it. I'll give changing this article a go. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 11:38, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Soundtrack

[edit]

Is the soundtrack complete listings with song timings really suitable to an encyclopedia entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.37.129.95 (talk) 02:23, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, create new sections for different topics. Secondly, I'm not sure. A lot of video game and movie articles have them, so I presume it is (either that, or we have a lot of cleaning up to do on this site). --Thejadefalcon (talk) 09:04, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Release?

[edit]

I once heard that they planned to re-release this game with more maps or expansions of some sort, but this was supposed to happen last year some time. Was this just a rumor or did it actually get re-released? It does not seem to be mentioned in the article.--SkiDragon (talk) 23:27, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't say I've ever heard of that. When I bought Gears in January, I only ever saw the budget thing. I'll check later to see if it actually did contain extra maps or anything, but it definitely didn't include the rest of Act 5. --Thejadefalcon (talk) 09:32, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Imulsion description

[edit]

From "Setting and characters":

A liquid called Imulsion (a radioactive material similar to radiation) becomes a highly valued power source after a scientist discovers how to use it and the economic shockwave led to several wars between nations.

Would someone explain or clarify "a radioactive material similar to radiation"? Seems like a redundant and weird construct that could be shortened to "A radioactive liquid called Imulsion becomes ...", no? --an odd name 01:30, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have no clue what the original editor was trying to go for there. I did not notice that line until you brought it up. The part in parenthesis should be removed for the aforementioned reasons. --  StarScream1007  ►Talk  01:45, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

First paragraph ends in "It is the best game ever." This ruins the neutrality of the article. I haven't dealt with editing vandalisim, and there may be other instances in the article. If you know how to properly handle it, please fix this. - Commandur (talk) 04:16, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting... it never showed up in my watchlist. Thanks for the tip. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 04:22, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Franchise" Misuse

[edit]

This may seem petty, but can people PLEASE stop using the word "franchise" without knowing what it means? McDonalds is a franchise. Gears of War is a game series. I know we all think "franchise" sounds cool, and we must therefore be smarter, more wonderful people for having used it, but it does NOT mean "series". There's a perfectly acceptable word for "series". Let's see if you can guess what it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.169.189.36 (talk) 06:50, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It has expanded beyond video games, it is thus considered a franchise. --MASEM (t) 06:59, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This may seem petty, but can people PLEASE stop putting new sections at the top of the page rather than where they're supposed to go? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 14:04, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

a franchise is a type of business where the owner of the premises (e.g. the shop or restuarant) pays a company (e.g. mcdonalds) for use of the name...or there abouts....and so gears of war is not a franchise...as...wait for it...its not a business - Ste —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.97.154.230 (talk) 22:53, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Settings and Characters

[edit]

I did some editing under the Settings and Characters to add links to the correct characters noted as "side characters". I also reworded the sentence to make it seem easier to follow and less redundant. Finally I fixed the name Hoffman being incorrectly spelled (Hofman) in a few occurances. Grimbear13 (talk) 13:47, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semiprotection

[edit]

The article is being vandalized a lot by unregistered users using different IP addresses. Maybe it should be semi-protected until the vandal (or vandals) gets bored? U.U. (talk) 15:29, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Note:: This tag is for an edit request for an already semi-protected page. To request that a page be semi-protected, see WP:RFPP. Cheers! Topher385 (talk) 15:54, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ultimate Edition Chapters

[edit]

Under Ultimate Edition it says "Ultimate Edition will feature five unreleased chapters of the campaign of the original game", while it's true that the 360 version didn't have these chapters, the PC version did. The way it's written seems to suggest there's 5 completely new chapters for the 2015 Ultimate Edition, instead of just adding the previous PC exclusive chapters from 2007. Splitting

[edit]

Hi. At 5590 (the combined text of this article (4819+771)) words, doesn't satisfy WP:SIZESPLIT, and since this the split article is simply a later edition of the same game, does not satisfy WP:CONSPLIT. Onel5969 TT me 16:49, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am not done with working on the prose for the reception section. There's at least 12 independent sources which have not been worked into the article. Kindly do not revert, and I suggest leaving it unreviewed and a second opinion from another NPP. Haleth (talk) 16:52, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
