In his later years, Gene Evans bought a farm near Jackson, Tennessee and was living there at the time of his death.

Evans was a terrific actor.

The OP needs to add some material about his excellent performances. He appeared memorably in many Gunsmoke episodes, and in his M*A*S*H appearance, he agreeably trampled all the other performers.
