Relation to royal family

[edit]

I noticed someone just added info to the article that posits a direct relation between George Bowes and the current Royal Family. I considered reverting this or adding {{citation needed}} tag(s), but then I realized, I can check this claim for myself using FamilySearch. So I did, and I was able to verify the claim -- so I am documenting the bloodline as I found it, for anyone interested. Here's a link to the family tree over there. (It looks like Wikipedia has sufficient information to connect all these dots as well.)

  1. George Bowes had a daughter with Mary Gilbart: Mary Bowes, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne
  2. Mary Bowes had a son with John Lyon, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne: Thomas Lyon-Bowes, 11th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne
  3. Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Louisa Rodney Carpenter had a son: Thomas George Lyon-Bowes, Lord Glamis
  4. Lord Glamis and Charlotte Grimstead had a son: Claude Bowes-Lyon, 13th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne
  5. Claude and Frances Dora Smith, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne had a son: Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne
  6. Claude Jr.'s wife was Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck, and their daughter was Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother
  7. ... whose daughter, with George VI, was of course Queen Elizabeth II.
