POV

The editors of this article seem to take an antagonistic approach toward George Carey, focusing on controversy, and doing so from an unsympathetic point of view, rather than on accomplishments. Unsigned edit by User:207.86.231.17 8 May 2006.

It would help if someone could add a section specifically highlighting his achievements, with sources. The difficulty is that sources appear to be richer and more accessible on other aspects. This seems to be due to a certain naivete in his handling of his high public profile, exemplified by the notorious profile Is he the worst Archbishop we have ever had? in 1999 - which concluded that he wasn't, but that he "without question the worst Archbishop imaginable for a media age". Michael Arditti, in his review of Lord Carey's memoirs [1], wrote: "His eleven years in office were marked by unprecedented public criticism. He managed to alienate many of his natural supporters on the Evangelical wing of the Church, as well as both the Liberal and Conservative opposition. He was, arguably, the most excoriated archbishop since the execution of Charles 1’s favourite, William Laud." I believe that others thought he was an efficient manager, but I have not been able to find a source for this. Chelseaboy 10:01, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

"PC" postnominal

Mabelina has argued that putting "PC" after Carey's name is incorrect. This may be strictly true for all that I know on the matter. However, the Debrett's website entry for him includes "PC" after his name. Debrett's isn't as a reliable guide to such matters as some would imagine - but unless some higher authority information on the matter is available it would be appropriate to stay with this in the article. FRSA postnominal

I have an email from the RSA Fellowship Administrator which states that Carey is not a Fellow and is not entitled to use the postnominal. This should therefore be changed 82.68.202.214 (talk) 13:29, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
