American Boy Scouts
[edit]I see this page says he was one of the first masters of the "American Boy Scouts" - and so does the reference cited. But this page links that to the "Boy Scouts of America" wiki entry. These were two independent organizations. Anyone have any solid information on which is correct? jdege (talk) 03:18, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
J. Frank Honeywell
[edit]While it is true that Honeywell wrote a few books as "Capt. George H. Ralphson," they were in the "Over There" series of World War I stories. Here is a full list of the titles in the series:
1 Over There with the Marines at Chateau Thierry (1919)
2 Over There with the Canadians at Vimy Ridge (1919)
3 Over There with the Doughboys at St. Mihiel (1919)
4 Over There with Pershing’s Heroes at Cantigny (1919)
5 Over There with the Engineers at Cambrai (1920)
6 Over There with the Tanks in the Argonne Forest (1920)
There are several Honeywell obits, some longer than others, and though they give some information on the series he worked on, they are not specific about the "Over There" volumes.
At least one other writer worked on the "Over There" series. This author wrote volumes 3 and 4 and possibly one or both from 1920.
The authorship and bibliographic record of unauthorized Boy Scout fiction like this series is complex and contradictory at times. The stories in the series originally published under the "Ralphson" house pseudonym were reprinted under other names like "Capt. V.T. Sherman" and "Archibald Lee Fletcher." It is probably more complex than can be covered in this entry nor would it fit the guidelines of Wikipedia. I have been writing a Series Book Encyclopedia for nearly 30 years and authorship of this kind of book is a particular specialty of mine and an emphasis of this work.
