Sammy Isamu Uchida[edit]

His oldest brother is Isamu Uchida, and he is referenced in HCUA Investigation of Un-American Propaganda Activities in the U.S.--Vol. 15. Isamu Uchida was employed at Poston camp as a judo instructor. Uchida and a man named George Fujii are arrested for the beating of Kay Nishimura. Their arrests trigger the Poston Strike of November 1942. They are the two men mentioned here: Poston_War_Relocation_Center#Life_at_Poston

Yoshihiro Uchida[edit]

Yosh, another brother, mentions that Isamu Uchida's "american name" was Sam.

Can you also name your siblings? Starting from the oldest? Oh sure. My oldest brother was Sam, his name was Isamu. And my sister right after that was Kazuko. And I was the third. And my fourth one was Suehiro or Henry. Then we had Shikao or George. So they were all known by their American names: Henry, George and Sam.

My sister's name is Kazuko Maehara. Then I have two younger brothers, Henry Suyehiro Uchida and George Shikao Uchida.

Yoshihiro Uchida was born in Calexico, California, on April 1, 1920. His father, Shikazo Uchida and his mother, Sue Itoh were from the Kumamoto prefecture in Japan. Uchida was the middle child of three brothers: Sam, Henry, and George, and one sister, Kazuko. Shikazo Uchida came to the United States in 1898, while his mother arrived later as a picture bride. The Uchidas spent their early years in the United States working as dairy farmers in the Imperial Valley. After Yoshihiro was born, the family sold the dairy and moved back to Japan. They eventually returned to California a few years later. In fact, Shikazo and Sue sailed on the last boat that left Japan before the Immigration Act of 1924 went into effect.
