Original research

[edit]

Much of this reads as an essay. It will need some editing down. Freshacconci 19:45, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added an original research tag: I hope to return to this soon to do some copyedits. Freshacconci 19:53, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because of my in-experience, I was unableto change the picture that is featured here as the example of Richter's new window in the Cologne Cathedral. One gets from this picture absolutely no sense of the real window. I have made a search online and have found many other great examples of the window and its colors. Could someone please change this picture so that thiss important work can be seen properly? Jbjorling —Preceding comment was added at 10:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Wiesental.jpg

[edit]

Image:Wiesental.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

what?

[edit]

In the biography section there is this ...'after unification of both German states, the wall painting 'Joy of Life' (1956) was uncovered in two places in the stairway of the German Hygienic Museum, and after the millenium these two uncovered windows with a look at the 'Joy of Life' has been newly recovered." Is that clear, because I can't make out what it means?Sayerslle (talk) 01:08, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bad faith paragraph: Richter in the Spiegel did not urge people "to do something about" the Lüpertz

[edit]

He asked a (rhetorical or not) question: warum beschwert sich da keiner (why do people not protest against awful art (with words only: beschweren is a written or verbal language act only.--Radh (talk) 11:40, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how this is bad faith but rather it seems like a bad translation. I don't read or write German, so perhaps you could change this? freshacconci talktalk 15:31, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I though bad faith because of the following sentences that link some neonazi attack on the Mozart thing directly to Richter's Spiegel essay.--Radh (talk) 15:41, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fix the English

Here and there, this has some extremely awkward sentences to the point of incomprehensibility. Were they / was the entire article translated from German? Wants copyediting. Lisa Paul (talk) 19:54, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Horst-schlaemma: "rev. POV edit"

[edit]

In three edits, User:OhayoWiki added two items to the article's infobox: |field=Photography and |movement=Modern Art, that user's only edits so far. As Richter, an exponent of New European Painting and explicitly categorised as postmodern, doesn't seem to be covered by the description in the article Modern art (his significant works are later than 1970), I removed the label "Modern Art" as unsupported by the article. I retained |field=photography but inserted a missing space, changed it to lower case, and unlinked it as WP:OVERLINK. I also corrected a number of other infelicities in the text: several instances of wrongly used hyphens, and a better wiki link. I also removed a list of 3 of Richter's works from the infobox denoted as his "notable works" because there's no justification to single out those 3 works, especially Acht Grau which is not even mentioned in the article. Then User:Horst-schlaemma reverted my edit wholesale with the edit summary: "rev. POV edit". I can't see how corrections of wrongly used hyphens or a correct link to the NPG in London can be called POV. As for |movement= and "Notable works": I don't think "Modern Art" is an appropriate descriptor for Richter's work or that the list of 3 works is justified. I suggest to restore my edit. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 04:03, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I actually agree with you, I just changed the movement to New European Painting. Btu maybe we should restore your edit and then update the movement. I am new here and learning. --User:OhayoWiki — Preceding undated comment added 04:19, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Bednarek, sorry, I think I had a fast shot at this one, as it looked to me like you've mostly taken out a list of works. I didn't check thoroughly enough, feel free to bring it back. Cheers, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 07:53, 19 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review for KuNsT716

[edit]

Thus far, the added contribution about his enrollment in the Hitler Youth Group strengthens the article. More information about his early life and early career could greatly benefit this article as well. As for other areas which need strengthening, I would say that adding more information about his abstract works, color chart paintings, sculpture, drawings, commissions, or his window at the Cologne Cathedral would make the article stronger too since they are relatively short in comparison to the section about his photo-paintings and the "blur". Also, is there any information about his photography? In the second sentence of the introduction, it states that he has produced abstract paintings, photorealistic paintings, photographs, and glass works. Are photo-paintings and photographs synonymous? Or has he exhibited photographs before? Ags36 (talk) 22:35, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Organization

[edit]

The main problem with this article is its organization. As is, it sprawls without any clear shape, despite the attempt to corral the material into thematic sections. For example the "relationships" section includes information about his relocation and what studio he occupied. The section on "early career" includes information on his teaching career, which was long and eminent, and ran at least until 1985. This makes the article difficult to follow, a difficulty which is only compounded by its length. Recommend giving each of the thematic subjects a clear chronological thrust, and severely trimming them to reflect Richter's major artistic achievements. Minor developments are already well-documented on his enormous personal website. Aolivex (talk) 17:46, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Use of quoted materials

[edit]

This article is nicely sourced in some places; elsewhere, citations are missing. Several quotations are pulled from the artist's writing and interviews, but these are not sufficiently integrated into the text. The problem is mainly that they are introduced with phrases like, "The following are Richter's answers" and "following refer to quotations regarding photography" (wordy), which add nothing of substance and raise the question of the relevance of their inclusion. These are nice quotations to have and their full potential could be better exploited if they were integrated into the text, by being framed as contextualizing or clarifying. For example, "Richter's attitude towards photography does much to clarify/runs against the common assumption that/does little to account for/has confirmed..." etc. Aolivex (talk) 17:52, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
