Canada

Does anybody know the Canadian chart positions for both Schizophonic and Scream If You Wanna Go Faster? I don't think this article would be complete without them. DrippingInk 20:22, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Clean-up

I believe that the article is in a state of depression. It is okay in terms of sales and British chart positions and perhaps even preceding fame aspects, but it is not travelling the road of success. I'm going to be enforcing the clean-up tag and once I return to the computer I access while I am volunteering, I'll be fixing it up. Are there any sources or citations for the Canadian and U.S. chart positions for Halliwell's albums? I am aware that the British chart positions are documented in her autobiography part two Just for the Record, however, the others do not cite a reference. The Canadian position for Schizophonic appears correct, but I can't be too sure of myself. Does anyone have the figures for these sale positions? As for the SG article - I did make a royal mess of it originally - but it was I who re-wrote the entire thing and made it into a good article. Capital FM Award?

Someone has put down that Geri has won a "Best British Female" award at the Capital FM Awards. (It was put at the wrong part of the article and I've formatted and moved it). However, upon some research, there is no evidence that she had won such an award! Can anyone clarify this? If not, I'm going to delete this comment. smileydude66 17:57, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Carrying papers comment

I've taken the liberty of deleting this comment from "The Future" section of the article because it did not make any sense plus there were no references of it to be found:-

"She was recently spotted out by the paparazzi, and pictures show geri carrying papers saying "movies, television?" and the paper's were headed "career options". Seems we have not saw the back of geri yet."

Songwriter

"Geri set another two records for shortest time for a female songwriter to achieve her ninth and tenth no. 1 UK singles. How many of these songs did she actually write? I personally would strongly contest that she could even generally be called a "singer-songwriter" - if you look at the definition given on the singer-songwriter page then it's clear that she's a "singer", but is there any evidence that she was responsible for writing these songs? how could passion have peaked at 41 and still have sold so much does anyone have any resources for these claims?? I highly doubt that on a world wide scale it would go over the 100,000 mark.

You have been changing figures over and over again, so please don't do that especially if you do not cite where you material comes from. But since this story does check it, although I think it is already beyond 10,000 as sales tend to become 4-5 times the first week sales. I have reverted the figures back to Dec 20 before a lot of you kept changing figures back and forth. Please cite the source so it can be verified. Schizophonic sounds plausible, but Scream If You Wanna Go Faster sounds way off, but the figure has been listed for a very long time and I can't find anything on the web. It has very low amazon rating, so the only possible explanation (a success in the US) is unlikely. Europe can multiple a UK figure by 2-3 times and if you include a non-success Canada and the US it can go upto 5 times. So 800,000 sounds more likely, but I can't find an accurate figure. http://www.geri-halliwell.com/ms/publicsites/gerihalliwell/geriwood/?view=javascript&detail=all talks about 1,8 million for It�s Raining Men world-wide, so that could be the source of the confusion. It was more the result of somebody else changing the information and that was never changed back. The 10,000 is mentioned on that site, but I think it is probably outdated. With 5,000 in the first week, 15,000 in the UK and 70,000 worldwide sounds more or less correct. It can even be slightly higher by now. KittenKlub 23:41, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

The BPI's website has a search engine that lists silver, gold, and platinum sales awards for record sales in the UK. The sales criteria are listed here. If you search for "Halliwell" it reveals that Schizophonic and "Look at Me" were both certified Gold and Silver on 11 June 1999 (presumably from pre-release orders); "Mi Chico Latino" was certified Silver on 27 August 1999; "Lift Me Up" Silver on 5 November 1999; Schizophonic Platinum 26 November 1999; "Bag it Up" Silver 17 March 2000; Schizophonic two times Platinum 23 June 2000. If you search for "Geri" it further reveals that "It's Raining Men" was certified Silver on 30 April 2001. Make of that what you will. Father's descent unclear

Her father's descent seems unclear to me: is he an ethnic Swede born and/or raised in Britain or is he half English and half Swedish?

Inconsistency with "Goodbye"

From the entry:

After Halliwell left, the girls wrote a few songs about her on their album Forever, notably "Goodbye", "Let Love Lead the Way" and "Tell Me Why"

Meanwhile, in the Spice Girls entry:

Whilst on tour in America the group continued to record new material and they released the new song "Goodbye" at Christmas 1998. Written before her departure, the song was nevertheless seen as a tribute to Geri and when it topped the British chart it became their third consecutive Christmas number one -- 1 January 2007

The future - inconsistency

The first paragraph says she's gonna release new songs yet does not say where and when she said that. The second paragraph says the opposite to what the first paragraph says. Personal life section too long

The 'personal life' section is arguably too long...'arguably' because she may be regarded as a celebrity, in which case those trivial titbits hold some kind of significance. Find a better picture

In my eyes Geri can never look bad, but her pose in the current image doesnt look right. Please note that any images added to Wikipedia have to fit copyright guidelines. The really rough and ready guide is that unless you took it yourself and can thus assign it appropriate copyright status, it's rather unlikely to be accepted. Labels list

At edit, an IP user added Virgin to the labels list in the infobox. This doesn't seem appropriate to me -- the Spice Girls were on Virgin, but none of Geri's solo material was on Virgin itself, but on a variety of EMI sub-labels, so I removed it. But perhaps we should discuss whether the individual labels merit listing there or whether EMI alone is sufficient. (There's no material in the article itself to support having loads of label material in there, as far as I can tell at a quick glance, but it presumably wouldn't be that hard to source if required). Alleged new album info

An IP editor added this text: "It was reported by the Daily Mirror in February 2008 that Geri was back in the studio recording her 4th album. According to his myspace, British/Russian singer Jack Lucien has written a few songs for the album.[3]." However, a search of the Mirror archives doesn't turn up any such reference in that month, and Lucien's blog entry only makes a vague reference to "working on her album" (no specification if it is songs, production, proposed songs or whatever). I've removed this until someone can come up with a better source for the claim (and it probably would go under future plans if it was restored in an appropriately sourced format, unless much more information was forthcoming). Text re-ordered, copy edit pending

I've just reshuffled the sections to make a more logical order and renamed the sections (e.g. it's not appropriate to have a "the future" section because of WP:CRYSTAL. The article is still in need of a serious copy edit: there's lots of problems with tense, irrelevant material (particularly the screeds of quotes, most of which don't add any substantive information) and general messiness. Sexy Spice vs Ginger Spice

I can't find a source for this: was dubbed Sexy Spice for her seductive outfits and stage costumes. However, she preferred being called Ginger Spice stating, "I always thought of myself as clumsy, not sexy."... so I'm replacing it with a ginger spice reference from Halliwell's autobiography. 12 million record sales.....?

i just deleted the opening paragraph where it stated she has sold "12 millions albums and singles as a solo artist"

i cant see how that is correct seeing that the 'schizophonic' page seems to think it sold around 1 million in total (its a bit vague) and 'scream if you want to go faster' sold 1.3 million (apparently) and 'passion' didnt even go top 40...so how can she have sold 12 million? there was no link/reference either so i have removed that line. even if the singles sales raked up another 1.5 million its probably more like 4 million she has sold...there is not way each album sold 4 million! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.44.216.100 (talk) 18:18, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

If there are references giving alternative dates of birth then it might be worth inserting a hidden comment, as has been done with this article where there was a lot of date changing activity. 2010 abum

I know there are reports that she's working on a new album, but before adding information about this to the discography, we should wait till; a) it's finished, b) there's been an official announcement, and c) it has a title. Until this happens, any information concerning a new album is speculative and adds nothing to this section of the article. Ideally any information that is ultimately added should come from reliable sources and be referenced. Currently there are no reliable sources for this information. It's always been said that Geri left the Spice Girls on May 30, 1998 because that's when her press statement was given. However, during her interview with Piers Morgan they showed a video of her, and she said she left the group on May 27, 1998. So since she stated it herself, should that be the date we use? Does anyone know for sure what her birth year is? The page currently says 1972, and she was claiming to be 25 when "Wannabe" was inescapable, but has anyone ever bothered to actually view her birth certificate? This is a BLP so anything controversial and uncited should be removed. However, some of the material is probably easy to cite to her autobiography(ies?), in fact I have done so previously,[6] but for some reason this article has suffered a lot of unconstructive edits that have eroded the article over time and removed references. Putting on the Bling

Supposed title of her next album, but most of the links I can find seem to be speculation from sources such as Heat Magazine and the Daily Express celebrity gossip column. I have therefore removed the information relating to this title. When a more reliable source becomes available, such as The BBC, The Guardian, NME, The Independent, etc, I think it could go back in. Singer-songwriter

Do we have a source for writing credits for her songs? I think singer seems like a more accurate description here. It seems to be a common theme in articles like this to present singers as "singer-songwriters" because they were given some minor discretion over lyrics. We don't need "sources" to tell Geri Halliwell is also a songwriter, if you know the credits for her solo albums and the Spice Girls albums, you will know that she co-wrote all the songs except for the cover versions. Age

The stated age appears to be correct. A BBC report from early 2001 gives her age as 28, which tallies with hitting 41 in late 2013; if she's lying, she's been remarkably consistent for the last 13 years. In addition, the Spice Girls were formed after responding to a March 1994 audition call specifying women aged 18-23. Current surname

A couple of recent media articles have suggested she now goes by the name Geri Horner professionally. Can anyone confirm this? I don't feel the article needs to be retitled since she was known professionally as Geri Halliwell for longer, but it would be worth noting that she now professionally goes by the Horner name too, not just as her married name. 136.159.160.5 (talk) 17:02, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Geri Halliwell → Geri Horner – Geri Horner has been known as Geri Horner for 3 years now. Her new surname, Horner, is more notable than her name Geriwell. Geriwell is associated with Spice Girls, which is now 24 years old, however Geri Horner is associated with her husband Christian Horner, who is OBE and current Team Principal for Red Bull Racing. I think if usage is more or less 50:50 we should use the name she uses now (Horner), instead of the one she used at the peak of her fame (Halliwell), even if the latter is the most recognisable one to the general public for that reason. jamacfarlane (talk) 18:11, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
Re-reading WP:DIVIDEDUSE (just to refresh my memory) makes me wonder whether it conflicts with WP:NAMECHANGES. Regardless, I'll say weak oppose; per that guideline, I think that "Geri Halliwell" is the less surprising name of the two. George Ho (talk) 18:50, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
I'm not sure I can vote here, just wanted to add that I've just looked this name up because an article mentioned Geri Horner and I didn't have a clue who she is. Not everyone reads British tabloids. Contradiction in personal life section

The article currently states:

"In October 2016, Halliwell revealed that she and Horner were expecting their first child together... Halliwell gave birth to her second child, a son... This is her first child with Horner."

I don't see the contradiction... The same section also states "Halliwell gave birth to her daughter, Bluebell Madonna, in May 2006. The child's father is screenwriter Sacha Gervasi whom Halliwell dated in 2005." Hence Blubell is Halliwell's first child (and her first child with Gervasi), and Monatgue is her second child (and her first child with Horner). Bennv3771 (talk) 14:44, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
