Pls don't assess as it's only about 2/3 complete. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 14:48, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apols to another editor, I was working on the article and its successor in a sandbox at the same time and didn't realise that I was contradicting edits, I thought I was bungling mine.Keith-264 (talk) 13:03, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question about February 21, 1916 attack[edit]

I have been researching my wife's grandfather's service in the Great War. 17th Reserve Artillery Regiment, 17th Reserve Division and have located the Regimental histories of both his unit and that of the 163rd Reserve Infantry Regiment. They refer to the attack on February 21 as being on the Giessler Heights. My thoughts are that this is the ridge between Angres and Givench-en-Gohelle. You refer to the 21 February attack as being on hill 145, which I am interpreting as being at the Canadian National Memorial. I am certainly not enough of an expert to be critical, but if you can set me straight, it would be greatly appreciated. I would certainly be happy to share what I have found. It could be the same place, the various armies sometimes had particular names for the same place but I'll have a look when I finish work. RegardsKeith-264 (talk) 07:08, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Keith I have located two on line versions of the History of the 163 RIR The German Version is at http://digital.wlb-stuttgart.de/sammlungen/sammlungsliste/werksansicht/?no_cache=1&tx_dlf%5Bid%5D=12142&tx_dlf%5Bpage%5D=1&tx_dlf%5Bdouble%5D=0&cHash=9dbd1ecac1001a0558b79f5552931a10 Maps are on page 94 and 100

A Danish Version is at: https://denstorekrig1914-1918.dk/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/IR163_samlet.pdf Maps are on P 50, 54, 55

I have done a fair translation of the 17th Reserve Artillery History and am plodding through the 163rd. Fraktur is difficult. Rbgilbert (talk) 16:13, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Fraktur is difficult" Yeah, I know that feelin'. Luckily [1] has a choice of fraktur and typeface. Regards Keith-264 (talk) 18:36, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I actually got there two weeks ago. Seeing the terrain in person is much better than a map. Thanks for cleaning up the source. Randy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rbgilbert (talkcontribs) 00:02, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Keith, I am about half through the translation of the chapter on Vimy Ridge. Send me an email to rgilbertATsuddenlink.net, and I will send you a copy when I get it finished. Rbgilbert (talk) 02:49, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
