Knights Cross, 'returned' and spacing

[edit]

If U-185 was sunk on 24 August 1943 and August Maus was one of the 25 survivors who became a POW, how was he awarded the Knights Cross on 21 September? The article itself is not at all clear and I can find nothing to suggest how this feat was achieved.
I've replaced 'returned' with 'docked' and 'sailed'. You can't return to somewhere that you haven't been to.
I've spaced out the entries in the table purely because they are easier to see on the edit page, (I realise it makes no difference on the article page).
