Epicyclic mechanisms

What may be useful is inclusion of a link or two, where WP:SEEALSO says to include the description in such non-obviously related cases...

  • Epicyclic gearing – two gears mounted so that the center of one gear revolves around the center of the other

Both mechanisms have non-concentric rotating (planetary-type) gears/rotors with fixed ratios. Epicyclic (depending on frame of reference). (how similar depends on the locked mode of the epicyclic gearing)

There's a few similar like cycloidal drive, and epicycloid (epicyclic -> epicyclic gearing).

The limited-slip differential link removed by the IP editor was put in by another editor not me, and again it is a related mechanism (depending on implementation of course). Widefox; talk 13:16, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The See also list should include items that have either similar function (gear pump), or similar mechanism. There is some, albeit minimal, overlap with a cycloidal drive. Despite the "GErotor" name, there is no overlap with gears: the teeth do not move in and out of mesh. The shape of a gerotor involves an epicyclic curve, but epicyclic gears do not: they move in a way that involves an epicyclic path, the gerotor does not. (ec - not going to merge my fix above now you've replied) Yes, you're right. My WP:OR failed, the connection is just internal gear. Diffs may use planetary gears, but that's a stretch too far to link to as these aren't epicyclic. Linked former in body, done. Widefox; talk 14:46, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
