Birth year category[edit]

Please do not add this category without citing a reliable source for it. At present two sources say he was two different ages in a particular year, and neither gives his year of birth. The Independent states he was 70 in a story published on 21 May 2006, but that doesn't mean he was born in 1936. He could have been born on any date from 22 May 1935 onwards. In addition the Irish Boxing article states he was 63 in May 2005, so until there is a verifiable year of birth this category should not be added. Pro Record[edit]

I've known Gerry for many years and he was never a pro boxer however both his sons were. Sam won the British Super Middle title. I tried to correct this but Hackney seems to think he knows better ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.184.226.165 (talk) 09:39, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your own opinion is irrelevant. "Storey, who landed a British Championships title as a professional, was the able to bring together boxers from both sides of the religious divide and deserves enormous credit for doing so" is clearly referring to Gerry. Also "Storey started boxing at the same club in 1949, then located in different premises, after a family friend pulled him in off the New Lodge street where he grew up. He progressed quickly, but an eye injury in his early twenties prevented him from taking his career further and he turned to training instead". 2 lines of K₃₀₃ 11:53, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, now I can understand the confusion that article is not only very badly written it is wrong in places. Gerry Snr never turned pro because of the eye injury, his son Sam was a pro and won the British Title, son Gerry Jnr also was a pro (just a couple of fights). I'm not going to change it back again as this is getting into an edit war, would you please confirm my info with Gerry himself.
