This one namely: [1]. It's an IP edit that says that opposition to the State of Israel is "rightful". --Svennik (talk) 00:59, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am the one who wrote the article, why can't I edit it?

I don't use a user account in Wikipedia and and don't want a user account in Wikipedia. I didn't create this article from a user account.

This article wasn't vandalized except two-three times since it was published, and the vandalism was quickly reverted in all cases.

Please open the article for general audience edit.

Edit request to complete AfD nomination

[edit]

Gharqad has been listed at Articles for deletion (nomination), but it was protected, so it could not be tagged. Please add:

{{subst:afd|help=off}}

to the top of the page to complete the nomination. Thank you. Sajid (talk) 06:50, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please shorten the opener passage?

[edit]

The current opener passage is this:

In Islam, the term gharqad (Arabic: غرقد) is used in some ahadith to describe a type of tree that, according to Islamic eschatology, will anthropomorphically seek to protect the Jews from the Muslims during a great apocalyptic battle known as al-Malhamat al-Kubra (الملحمة الكبرى), which is prophesied to occur close to the Day of Judgement. This prophecy asserts that this conflict will take place shortly after the emergence of al-Masih ad-Dajjal (ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱلدَّجَّالُ, lit. 'The Deceitful Messiah'), who will falsely present himself as the Mahdi and be followed primarily by the Jewish people, whereas the actual Mahdi will lead a Muslim army against the Dajjal and his followers until the Second Coming of Jesus, after which the Dajjal will be killed. According to a hadith attributed to Abu Huraira, one of Muhammad's companions, all stones and trees except for the gharqad tree will miraculously speak to reveal the location of any Jews taking cover behind them during the war with the Muslims.

Why do we need all this euphemistic, metaphoric, doublespeak? Especially why was it written "will anthropomorphically seek to protect". Please write something simpler.

Hello, 2001:44C8:4850:20C7:69BC:2B62:80A:9146! Thank you for pinging me. You are correct. I will make an initial attempt.--FeralOink (talk) 13:28, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello User:FeralOink. With all due respect and with no desire to make you feel bad I think that the current opener is even worse then the previous. What is all this talk about the modern state of Israel in the opener? The hadith narrations about Gharqad were recorded much before the state of Israel or Zionism ever existed. The majority of the citizens of Israel with direct Jewish ancestry are not at all or very religious and many if not most of the citizens of Israel without direct or any Jewish ancestry are also not at all or very religious yet this Hadith relates to people who are Jews (by religion, clearly) and not by any kind of ideology or ethnic identity.
I suggest to delete about 75% of the current opener and just put a simple straight-to-the-point opener as can be found in Hebrew Wikipedia:

ר'רקד (בערבית: غرقد)[א] הוא שמו של מין עץ אשר לפי ספרות החדית' האסלאמית יגן על יהודים בעת אל-מַלְחַמַה אל-כּ֫וּבְּרַא (אנ') בין מוסלמים ליהודים באחרית הימים בעוד שכל מיני העצים האחרים יבגדו ביהודים.

מין עץ הר'רקד מזוהה עם המין ימלוח[1][2] או עם המין אטד[3][4].

and in English:

Gharqad (Arabic: غرقد) is the name of a tree species that according to Islamic Hadith literature will protect Jews on the time of Al Malhama Al Kubra ("The Great War") between Muslims and Jews in the eve of Judgement Day whilst all other tree species will betray the Jews.
The Gharqad tree species is identified with either Nitraria or Lycium.

Isn't this much simpler and practical in your opinion, dear User:FeralOink? Thanks. 2001:44C8:4233:8C9A:D982:F919:1AE4:D62E (talk) 14:32, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
