Past Tense

[edit]

Much of the past tense used seems inappropriate, as there's no reason to think her career is over (AFAIK). M-1 (talk) 04:00, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Correct; Gilli's creative work, involvement with Gong and other projects continue. 94.196.251.102 (talk) 01:52, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation

[edit]

It's here. And please be careful with your accusations. At least one admin has stated that he believes the links are valid citations. The two questions are whether 1) they are required to support the text and, 2) whether the interal links to Starwood Festival are actually prohibited by policy. Calling the links spam when they were intended as citations could be taken as an WP:NPA violations as you are accusing those who support them of being vandals. Date of birth

[edit]

The article has Smyth's year of birth as 1933, but I've seen it reported that she was born in 1932, thus the name of the forthcoming Gong album 2032. Bondegezou (talk) 08:38, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How are the years 1932 and 2032 connected? what's the inference?94.196.251.102 (talk) 01:47, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FreeBMD has no record of a birth of any Gillian Smyth in either year. So name and/or date of birth may be wrong. There are a few birth records for Gillian Smith for 1932 in London, but none for 1933. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:05, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What is called the "official website" (http://www.gillismyth.com/gillismyth/index.html) has a history -> biography section, apparently hosted somewhere else (http://www.pilmeyer.com/gillismyth/biography.html). This page mentions 1 June 1933 as date of birth. For what it's worth. Mark in wiki (talk) 11:12, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And PlanetGong also mentions 1-6-1933: https://www.planetgong.co.uk/archives/mementos/gilli-smyth.shtml. Mark in wiki (talk) 11:14, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes. 1933, a great year for flying teapots. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:57, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

King's College London and London University/University of London

[edit]

The text offers "Smyth has three degrees from King's College London,[citation needed] (the liner notes for Voiceprint's 'Mother Gong' CD suggests 'London University')." There is no conflict here. London University or the University of London (interchangeable) is/was a federal university, comprising many constituent colleges - UCL, LSE, SSEES, SOAS, Queen Mary Westfield, Royal Holloway etc etc. In the recent past, some of these have sought and gained full independent status and others have become subsumed into competitor colleges within and without London University. Nevertheless, during the time Gilli was at King's College, London it was a bona fide, fully paid-up constituent college of London University/the University of London. NB Not all universities in London are part of London University.85.76.152.97 (talk) 21:13, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

e.g Westminster University, formerly Polytechnic of Central London, IIRC.94.196.251.102 (talk) 01:50, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
