[edit]I replaced the image.
- David Oldrey and Timothy Cox, "The Heath and the Horse : a history of racing and art on Newmarket Heath", Philip Wilson Pub Ltd, 2015., p.82.
According to Oldrey2015, in this 'Before' picture, the first horse of the four running in the background is Gimcrack.
- This first horse is grey. Jockey is wearing black, that is color of Ld.Bolingbroke.
- Second one is Richard Vernon's chesnute Chesire Dick.
- Third is Ld. Grosvenor's bay Boreas, fourth is Ld. Grosvenor's grey . Both jockey is wearing orange.
I can not decide whether the horse painted in left is Gimcrack or not. He doesnt look like grey, rather dark bay or brown. Coat color is clearly different from that of the grey horse in the background. However, it may also be affected by the lighting, and the word "Gimcrack" is written under the horse.
Stubbs drew many pictures of this composition. This one looks like grey.
According to Oldrey2015, 'Before' picture is certainly Gimcrack.
I'm not sure, but it looks like the pattern on his face is different. in 'After', it is one stripe. In 'Before', it looks like interrupted stripe. --㭍月例祭 (talk) 10:09, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
