Irrelevant image

[edit]

@Bookworm857158367: It is my contention that File:Leglaieul W-A Bouguereau.JPG is inappropriate for this article's infobox.

  1. MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE "Images must be significant and relevant in the topic's context, not primarily decorative." There is no obligation to have any in the infobox. If one is desired then I suggest File:St Gwladus in Gwladus.jpg, a picture of the earliest known Gladys
  2. The link between the name Gladys and the gladiolus flower is tenuous. Giving such a tenuous link pride of place in the infobox is WP:UNDUE.
  3. The link between the name Gladys and the gladiolus flower is English. The artist William-Adolphe Bouguereau was French; its picture's title is French; there is no evidence that the girl's name was Gladys or that Bouguereau had any conception of the name Gladys when he painted it. The image and its caption are WP:SYNTH.
  4. The gladiolus, despite the picture's title, is much less prominent in the picture than the girl holding it. There are lots of pictures of gladioli in commons:Category:Gladiolus. Even if there were a consensus that a flower is the best infobox image, then many of those would be preferable.

Nonetheless, it is a picture of gladioluses. The name is feminine, hence the girl holding flowers. . The image is relevant and I oppose its removal. Bookworm857158367 (talk) 18:03, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
