Real or Hoax
[edit]I feel this article deserves some type of banner until April 1 to warn about the possibility this "game" being a hoax or viral marketing ploy. Since the game hasn't been released yet, then none of you truly know if it's real or not. A few videos and generic marketing fluff repeated across a bunch of websites doesn't prove that it is NOT a hoax! I'm not sure if it's a hoax or not, but it sure smells fishy! • Sbmeirow • Talk • 10:59, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- There's no evidence - outside of releasing April 1 - that this could be a hoax, and given how many are covering it, its very doubtful it is. As such, we can't say anything towards it. At this point, since people are paying money for it for pre-ordering via Steam, this would be a very costly hoax if there's no real product behind it. --MASEM (t) 14:47, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- I suppose you could ask any of the 1,825 people currently in-game whether or not it's a hoax. Rubiscous (talk) 18:54, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- Speaking as someone who spent a lot of time playing it yesterday, it is actually a hoax. This isn't a game, but rather an accurate scientific simulation of goat psychology. BAAAA Einsidler (talk) 02:32, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- That's a lie, a friend I saw playing it on their stream clearly called it a deconstruction of the "games as art" debate. :) --MASEM (t) 02:33, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Cult Classic
[edit]So, the game is officially out for a day and people want to already label it a cult classic? Premature much? 77.64.180.237 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 18:29, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Platforms
[edit]Game devs have announced future OSX and linux versions, this does not mean the game supports them. Neither OS has distribution setup in steam, nor does the official goat simulator site allow downloads or purchases. Until it is actually released on these two platforms the citation is nothing but promises, and the linux gaming community has seen plenty of these. Please wait to add OSX and linux platforms until they are actually supported. Arwineap (talk) 19:44, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
Reception
[edit]Youtube game reviewers are treating it like Game of the Year, calling it "so bad it's awesome/hilarious" & "one of the best sim games ever to come out of Steam Greenlight." Reviewer sites who give it a rating in the 70 percentile or less still recommend playing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8:B580:4EF:79D3:8632:3746:B305 (talk) 12:11, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
Goat Simulator DVD-ROM in Europe?
[edit]Clint Basinger of Lazy Game Reviews mentioned the European DVD-ROM release of Goat Simulator in the "Physical Releases of Digital Games" video on YouTube this month. Why is this game's European DVD-ROM release info missing? And, is it a Steam-Works (correct?) type game that needs an activation code when you get the DVD version?

- I've seen nothing to collaborate this random YT reviewer's commentary. There might be, but we'd need a better source to add that. --MASEM (t) 05:52, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
iOS Version
[edit]So the iOS version just came out: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id868692227?mt=8 and we need to update the article.

Genre
[edit]Is the game seriously described as a simulation game by third-party sources? Because at least IGN's and Game Informer's databases list it as an action game. --Mika1h (talk) 00:59, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- Probably a holdover from original writing. Made it action. (if anything, Extreme Sports may be a more apt category but that's even hard to justify). --MASEM (t) 01:03, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

I will review later today. Please be advised that I will not have access to a computer from Friday afternoon to Sunday night, Australian Time. Freikorp (talk) 03:20, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- Well done on the article. Placing on hold until minor issues are addressed. As per previous comment, if you don't address all the concerns by early tomorrow afternoon you'll have to wait till Sunday night/Monday for me to pass the review. Freikorp (talk) 10:39, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- I believe I have hit all the points: note that on the two lead references, I've moved the references elsewhere in the article to clear that up. --MASEM (t) 16:14, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria
- Is it reasonably well written?
- A. Prose is "clear and concise", without copyvios, or spelling and grammar errors:
- "A version for Xbox One co-developed by Double Eleven is also in progress." Consider mentioning as of when development of this version was reported to be in progress.
- "They limited themselves to a limited development time" - lose the second instance of 'limited'.
- "Tim Turi of Game Informer stated that the first hour of so with the game would be amusing, but lacked more expansions features that he "[does not] recommend it to anyone looking for more than disposable entertainment"." Fix bolded grammar error in first half of sentence; second half of sentence needs grammar rewrite also. How about, "but due to the lack of more expansion features he"
- "Rich Stanton of The Guardian was very critical of the game, noting how the game is self-aware of its poor quality, and stated that the game's creation and promotion "demonstrates how social media and the internet amplify our supine tendencies". Avoid three uses on "the game" in one sentence.
- "Goat Simulator was named as an honorable mention for Excellence in Audio for the 2015 Independent Games Festival." I think it's a good idea to avoid single sentence paragraphs, but up to you.
- B. MoS compliance for lead, layout, words to watch, fiction, and lists:
- A. Prose is "clear and concise", without copyvios, or spelling and grammar errors:
- Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
- A. Has an appropriate reference section:
- Reference '"Double Eleven » Goat Simulator is heading for XBox One!".' needs to be formatted as per other references, date, access date, work etc
- Reference 'Goat Simulator 1st Alpha Gameplay". YouTube.' You should somehow mention in the reference that it is the Official Coffee stain Youtube account. Also needs access date.
- Fix inconsistently formatted reference dates, i .e 'Retrieved 3 April 2014' and 'Retrieved 2014-08-12'
- Is there any reason why 'Joystiq' isn't wikilinked in references yet all the other 'works' are?
- B. Citation to reliable sources where necessary:
- C. No original research:
- A. Has an appropriate reference section:
- Is it broad in its coverage?
- A. Major aspects:
- B. Focused:
- Is it neutral?
- Fair representation without bias:
- Is it stable?
- No edit wars, etc:
- Does it contain images to illustrate the topic?
- A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content:
- B. Images are provided if possible and are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
- Overall:
- Pass or Fail:
All issues addressed. Passing now. :) Freikorp (talk) 22:06, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Pewdiepie stopping development ?
[edit]Wasn't there some talk back in the day that the developer of this game stopped updating it because Pewdiepie made a scathing review of it? I'm not that up on video game knowledge, but I seem to remember something like that? Mr Blumenthal (talk) 21:09, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Or maybe because they are focusing more on GS3? 32.212.102.239 (talk) 18:08, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Could be! I just seem to remember Pewdiepie saying the creator stopped updates because of his review, but maybe that was just Pewdiepie blowing his own trumpet! Mr Blumenthal (talk) 21:40, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
