Idomatic Usage

Golden thread is used to refer to those things that tie us back to some earlier essence. It is used in this sense by the British army to refer to the insignia a regiment carries that link it back to former units.

It was also used by George Orwell in the Lion and the Unicorn when defining Englishness including "old maids cycling through the meadow to evensong" - and hance in many political speeches that reference it.

Presumably it is this sense that is being referred to in the name of the legal judgement and probably by Dickens.

obviously gold is the archetype of value and can by drawn into a thread that can be woven into lesser cloth - but I suspect the usage has more than just this.

I think it may link to the thread spun by the Moirai - but I am not a philologist or a classicist.

I am not sure I could write a page without it being OR.
