goo.gl article redirection[edit]

Why does this Wikipedia article for goo.gl redirect to the general article on URL shortening? It seems inappropriate, partly because only five sentences in that entire article are actually about goo.gl, and partly because it conflates - or at least gives the impression of conflating - URL shortening with the goo.gl service, which is far from being reality. This is especially bad for the goo.gl link that is listed at the end of the URL shortening article. I believe that no article should link back to itself via redirect, so I'm being bold and change the redirect target to Google. This is way worse. "Goo.gl" refers to a URL shortening service. "Google" is a massive company and its articles doesn't even mention the URL shortening service. Redirecting there is just wrong. There's more than one article that links here, and all of them expect this page to discuss the URL shortening service.

I think goo.gl should redirect to URL shortening, and in fact I will revert it as such. The URL shortening article simply should not link back here if we want to avoid it linking to itself. But yes, writing this article would be better. --NeatNit (talk) 11:00, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
