SYNOPSIS[edit]

The bit about the coach and the professor getting together is from the 1974 revival's script revision. In the 1927 original, the (astronomy) professor is a male and he has no relationship whatsoever with the coach. This should be corrected. Fred Lane 03:50, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Expanded 1993 Synopsis[edit]

I would like to expand the plot synopsis, possibly with two seperate sections for the 1927 plot and the 1993 plot, because there are some major differences. I have a lot more information on the 1993 production, which I believe is the more-revived version, but the original production definately deserves its synopsis as well. I don't know if that follows typical Wikipedia protocol, though. Does anyone have any objections?MarianKroy (talk) 18:52, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No objection here. -- Ssilvers (talk) 02:09, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All right! I finished the plot summary! The second act isn't as detailed as I'd like, so if anyone has better information, feel free to add to it!MarianKroy (talk) 01:50, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another super duper job! Can you do the same for the 1927 version? -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:05, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd need to go to the library and get some more detailed references. I'll see what I can do!MarianKroy (talk) 14:38, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Among other things that should be explicated are the reference to miscegenation in the opening paragraph and an explanation of the Jenna character. 173.79.234.183 (talk) 22:15, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1927 Plot Summary[edit]

Almost four years later, here is the 1927 synopsis, based on the actual libretto. I know it's long; the plot's rather convoluted, so it was hard for me to reduce it. I'll try to slim it down some more. MarianKroy (talk) 16:50, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, sorry, but it's definitely too long. You just need to leave out some of the least important subplots that don't drive the story. Maybe if you give it a week and then come back to it, you'll be able to bring yourself to let go of some of this text. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:24, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I took some more out and will return to it later. In my defense, it's a 1920s musical and the plot is thus rather convoluted; it's hard to find a clear path through the libretto. MarianKroy (talk) 03:00, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What's changed?[edit]

In the Productions section, we have: "...the libretto was rewritten to emphasize a romance between their characters, reducing the impact of the college student characters who had made the 1927 version popular.[4][5] The new libretto moved the setting from the Twenties to the Depression-era Thirties...." Now that you've read 1993, should there be any more explanation of the major changes in the versions? Also, we mention the films at the bottom of the Productions section. Can we give a brief idea of whether the films were faithful to the show libretto, or if they had substantial departures? Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:29, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on this. I don't know how easy it will be to find the film information, but I'll try to find it. I just made some changes to the article explaining the major differences between the versions, and I plan to make more in the next day or two. MarianKroy (talk) 23:50, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
