GA review[edit]

GA review (see here for criteria)

Nice work, only a very few details I noticed, some of which aren't "must dos"

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
A few short paragraphs that might be merged
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Nice use of a number of sources and nice use of quotations
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
While it would be nice to have more coverage on his later life, it doesn't look like he did anything noteworthy after playing football
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
No edit wars I can see, although lots of tweaking and improvement
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
    aye

Quibbles -

  • Lede - second paragraph is only two sentences. Perhaps pad it out with the reference to losing to Archie Griffin?Green tickYCbl62 (talk) 15:03, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Youth section, last paragraph, its one sentence but I can't see how to integrate it into another paragraph, so I guess it'll have to stand unless there is more information that could expand the paragraph. Response: I agree. It's kind of a stand-alone point.Cbl62 (talk) 15:28, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • University of Michigan section, Overview subsection, the last paragraph is short, it can probably be merged with the previous paragraph without destroying the flow of ideas, since the section is an overview section. Green tickY--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 14:55, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Same section, 1974 subsection, lots of short paragraphs that make the prose flow badly. Might consider merging.Green tickYCbl62 (talk) 15:28, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Same for the 1975 subsectionGreen tickYCbl62 (talk) 15:15, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is it "cut back runner" or "cutback runner"? You use both. Response: It should be cutback runner. There is one quote from Schembechler where he refers to Bell as a "cut runner." If article uses "cut back runner," that should be changed (unless in quote), but I'm not finding it.Cbl62 (talk) 15:23, 16 January 2008 (UTC)Response to response Ah, I see that it's a quote now, I missed that it was a quote, so ignore this one. Ealdgyth | Talk 15:43, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Professional career and Later years sections have some two sentence paragraphs but I don't see how they can be easily merged. Perhaps expand, although I won't hold back the GA status on this one, it's more a notice than a fix demand.Green tickY--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 20:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the "While I'm wishing" department (I won't hold the article back on this one) the career statistics tables would be really cool in sortable tables.Green tickY--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 20:38, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • VERY nice! Thanks! It certainly wasn't something that had to be done, but boy it's cool. Ealdgyth | Talk 21:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • The academic in me wants to see EVERY reference footnoted also listed in the References section, but it's not a requirement, and once again I won't hold the article back on this one.
    • All other footnotes are either web citations or periodicals and newspapers. Nothing else belongs in a references section.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 20:41, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd like to see a caption for the picture in the infobox that says when the picture was taken, if possible.?Green tickYCbl62 (talk) 15:15, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • The fair use picture of Bo Schembechler, I'm not sure it's needed in the article on one of the players he coached. But I'm no expert on Wikipedia picture policy, so feel free to use your own judgement on this one.
    • I am not sure how fair use works when the figure is dead. Will remove if asked.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 20:58, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Since I wasn't sure myself, and this isn't Featured Articles, we'll leave it in. Ealdgyth | Talk 21:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Might stagger the pictures, one right aligned, one left aligned.
    • Somewhere I was told right aligned is prefereable unless images are getting stacked, but I can not find a policy right now.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 16:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Not a big worry, since there are only the two pictures. Ealdgyth | Talk 16:34, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • And it'd be nice to see a persondata template added at the bottom. Response: I've never done one of those before. How about you, Tony??Cbl62 (talk) 15:29, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Persondata shows how to use it. The Wikipedia Biography project is big on them, so I try to put them onto the people articles I see. The main thing to remember is to use ";" between items. I'll go ahead and add the persondata in for ya'll. Ealdgyth | Talk 15:46, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll start including that in future articles.Cbl62 (talk) 15:59, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As usual, I've put the article on hold for seven days to let these quibbles be addressed. Nice work! Ealdgyth | Talk 14:39, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great works guys! Looks great. Congrats! I'll process the epaperwork and you're good to go. Ealdgyth | Talk 21:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page move[edit]

It has been proposed that Gordon Bell (disambiguation) be renamed and moved to Gordon Bell, along with other similarly named articles. Please discuss at Talk:Gordon Bell rather than here.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 13:48, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
