Which 'Gothic church'.. East Gore?[edit]

The last paragraph refers to "a wooden Gothic church designed by the eminent architect R A Lawson"

Which church is this? The RA Lawson article only refers to a church in 'East Gore'/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by GrantB (talkcontribs) 08:05, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't know a lot about R A Lawson, and marginally more about Gore, but I would assume that the building mentioned is the East Gore Presbyterian Church (I don't think it is in use anymore). Just before the reference to East Gore in the Lawson article, it says "In his ecclesiastical commissions, Lawson worked exclusively for the Protestant denominations ..." I also don't know a lot about Gothic Architecture, but having seen the East Gore Presbyterian Church it certainly is something out of the ordinary. Does anyone know for sure? I've done some digging and confirmed my hunch. See the article for details. Blarneytherinosaur 01:25, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to Prohibition[edit]

This article makes reference to prohibition in New Zealand. While there were various referendums, there was never a period prohibition in NZ. As such, unless justified and contradicts the Wikipedia article on Prohibition, this should be removed Roche-Kerr (talk) 00:04, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

True, but I believe all of Southland was 'dry' from 1905 until around 1945. Hokonui whisky started well before that though. Snori (talk) 08:56, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion of farms to dairying is not growth in Gore[edit]

The conversion of farms from sheep to cows may or may not result in greater wealth amongst farmers. To refer to "This growth has led to low unemployment in the town" is meaningless, for the transition from sheep to dairy in farms in the district does not automatically lead to "growth" in the town, and even if that did follow these are still two different things.203.80.61.102 (talk) 03:30, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Sgt Dan"[edit]

What does "The building's famous "Sgt Dan" remains because rights to it have been purchased by the buildings current owner "Sgt Dan Stockfoods Ltd"" actually mean? 'Sgt Dan remains' makes no sense to me.203.80.61.102 (talk) 03:37, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
