- It is definitely not called "the Forbidden City" within Korea. "The Forbidden City" is a nickname which originated from English language media (specifically NK News) and was picked up by other foreign language sources. This Wikipedia article is also available in Farsi, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesia, which use translations of "the Forbidden City"; as well as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, which do not even mention such a nickname.
