Elevation

[edit]

There are various elevations reported for this mountain:

4026 feet "East Dix". Peakbagger.com.
4012 feet "East Dix". SummitPost.org.
4012 feet "East Dix". Geographic Names Information System. United States Geological Survey, United States Department of the Interior.
4012 feet "Mount Marcy, N.Y. 1953" (map).

Recent USGS topographic maps show 1,227 metres (4,026 ft). See "Mount Marcy, N.Y." (map).

I choose 4026 feet because PeakBagger is a very reliable source and because GNIS usually underestimates the elevation of summits as their elevations are the mean elevation over an area. –droll [chat] 22:56, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
