Redirect...

[edit]

We really need to remove the redirect from plain stakes race to this article, as there are more stakes races than those by Thoroughbreds, and those breeds (such as the Quarter Horse) don't necessarily use the graded stakes concept. Ealdgyth - Talk 23:11, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Toe grabs

[edit]

Article says "Toe Grabs: Cannot be more than two millimeters long." What is a toe grab? I don't know what that means in the context of horse racing.Cromulant (talk) 17:24, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

F(emale)/M(ale) vs. F(illies)/M(ares)

[edit]

Many of the stakes listed have the incorrect sex information due to the use of notations inconsistent with normal usage. For instance, the Beldame and Diana are F/M in that they are for fillies and mares, however in this list they should be listed as just F for female. Switching the letters around to M/F for male/female would create less confusion to both the reader and the editor. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.178.88.198 (talk) 19:31, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Totally agree, I found it utterly baffling to see the Kentucky Derby listed as F/M!! I went with the industry standard and used F/M for races 3 and up for fillies and mares, and left blank for races open to both sexes. Added a note to the bottom to explain. Bold

[edit]

Why are some of these races in bold? There is no explanation of the table. 75.41.109.190 (talk) 17:46, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering that myself; the bold was added in a 2012 edit without explanation. I suspect it was some special higher classification within the Grade I races, but that's just an educated guess from the fact that all three Triple Crown races plus other important races at those tracks (i.e., Kentucky Oaks) were included; but it didn't include all races at the Triple Crown tracks, and included certain races at other tracks. Since I found nothing to indicate why those specific races were chosen, I deleted all the bold formatting. --RBBrittain (talk) 18:07, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
