First Ascent[edit]

Is there any reliable source confirming "the summit had been visited on 20 August 1822 by F. Clissold with guides J. M. Couttet, M. Bossonney, D. Couttet, P. Favret and J. B. Simond on the descent from their first ascent of Mont Blanc de Courmayeur". Clissold Made the tenth ascent of Mont-Blanc, by the classical way of that time (Grands Mulets, Rochers rouges, mur de la côte...), (see CLISSOLD, Frederick. Narrative of an ascent to the summit of Mont Blanc, august 18th, 1822. With an appendix, upon the sensations experienced at great elevations. London, Rivington and Cochran, 1823). I didn't fine any indication that they went to the Grand Pilier d'Angle, or even the Mont Blanc de Courmayeur. And it seems very unlikely for the Grand Pilier d'Angle, with is absolutely not a descent way ! Hadrien (talk) 08:03, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a french translation of the Clissold account [1] : they stay on the summit of Mont Blanc, and go back by the same way.Hadrien (talk) 08:27, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
