Girlfriend

[edit]

Is it really necessary to have the name of the person he is dating? That seems more like gossip to me especially because there is no way of proving that they are still together unless he mentions it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.228.202.224 (talk) 07:38, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's really necessary. But I leave it there because it's never been publicized, and I'm intrigued about how people sleuth out various aspects of my life. And yes, we're still dating. Grantimahara (talk) 04:09, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, still dating. Grant rocks. I'm the girlfriend, and happy to confirm it. =) 67.188.43.2 (talk) 06:08, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Karen Zachary[reply]

Grant's teeth

[edit]

Just noticed- Grant has definitely had his teeth straightened- looks MUCH better.Saxophobia 01:09, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. They are porcelain veneers. I would prefer not to add this to my profile. Better to let people just notice for themselves. Grantimahara (talk) 04:10, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No offense, but it's an encyclopedia article, and people who see the old episodes are going to wonder what happened. It's like leaving a boob job out of famous female's article. I'm too lazy to look for a source, though, so I'll leave it. CashDude (talk) 21:43, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Japanese-American"?

[edit]

I thought he was Korean-American? I remember in one episode of Mythbusters, he kids about being Jamie's long-lost son from Korea. Can we confirm this (no pun intended)? Ripberger 02:31, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Imahara is a Japanese name. As far as I know, Korean names follow the single Chinese character as a last name, so it's probably not a Korean name.--Bakarocket 11:37, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He's full-blooded Japanese and an 8th generation Japanese American. --Karen D. Zachary 19:01, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Really. Both full-blooded, and eighth-generation? That's impressive, and well-nigh impossible.-- Bakarocket 01:11, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well he considers himself a full-blooded, 4th generation Japanese Americam [1]--Carl Von Clausewitz 04:36, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's full-blooded, 4th generation Japanese American. Grantimahara (talk) 04:07, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is it necessary to say "Japanese American electronics and radio control expert"? Is it necessary to bring up his ancestry in the first sentence? The John F. Kennedy article doesn't say anything about Irish American in the lengthy introduction, and the Al Pacino article identifies him as American, not Italian American. Likewise, Sidney Poitier and Oprah Winfrey are identified as American, not African American. Imahara is Yonsei, and given that he hasn't been publicly vocal about his heritage, is there a solid reason to identify him as Japanese American as opposed to simply American? There are counterexamples to the trend I noted, of course. Is there any sort of policy for this? Punning (talk) 02:12, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It was person in question himself who added that piece of information and I don't know if there are wikipedia policy on this but in my opinion it's relevant piece of information on the right place. 84.250.204.83 (talk) 22:33, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly seems important information. I've seen it listed in the first paragraph in other articles, but that doesn't mean it needs to be there. A person's heritage is generally considered interesting information, if not a key biographical point. I in fact came to this article with that question in mind; I saw the episode with the Grant ballistic gel placed as a Vietnam sniper, and it came up in conversation. We didn't think he was Vietnamese, but it did seem interesting they picked the Asian star to form the model.75.185.240.16 (talk) 01:53, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Middle name?

[edit]

did he really have his middle name changed to "Danger", as claimed in the last Mythbusters episode, or was that just their usual sillyness? its hard to tell truth and absurdity apart sometimes with them...

I have that same question. - tinlv7
I'm pretty sure that they were just being silly. I havn't heard anything about him legally changing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.228.202.224 (talk) 07:36, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. I did not change it. Just the usual silliness! Grantimahara (talk) 04:06, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deadblow merge?

[edit]

I support the merge; currently there's not enough material in the article to make it more than a stub. Willbyr (talk | contribs) 15:28, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Residence

[edit]

The line in Imhara's information as stated:

Imahara currently resides in Oakland, California.[citation needed]

Check out the web page at http://www.myspace.com/grantimahara

The following information is posted on Grant Imahara's MySpace page.

Male 38 years old OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA United States

I put the information here as I'm not experienced enough yet to make edits to the actual page. I'm putting it here in hopes that someone else with more experience will put it in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Donald Chase (talkcontribs) 23:54, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is residence good biographical information? Since he's alive I get a stalker vibe. And he has since changed his residence on his myspace to San Francisco? DigitalShepherd (talk) 22:34, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Beliefs, or lack of

[edit]

I would really like more of a in-depth look on each cast member's beliefs and/or lack of due to the fact that they work with james and Adam —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.117.130.115 (talk) 20:11, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who gives a damn? This is an encyclopedia and unless the person is outspoken about something, beliefs et cetera as well as girlfriend, teeth and residence are unimportant.SPeitsch (talk) 12:34, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say he's an Atheist, I'd be extremely surprised if he wasn't — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.93.211.140 (talk) 16:47, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That plus $2 will get you on the bus. To add this to a Wikipedia article, though, we need a reliable source. - SummerPhD (talk) 01:33, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Post-MythBusters

[edit]

I can't find anything online that I can reference for this, but I was in the audience when Grant spoke at Salt Lake Comic Con. Before taking questions, he mentioned that there were talks in the works with multiple networks for future projects, both for himself and the others in the build team. That doesn't say a whole lot about his future plans, other than that they're in the process of being formulated, but I thought I'd bring it up in case someone else has better luck finding a reference. By the way, if Grant reads this: Thanks for coming out to Salt Lake! RobertJWalker | Talk 18:00, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography Section

[edit]

Shouldn't there be a separate filmography section like for other performers? I distinctly remember him in a cameo 2008 "Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control" which was a Get Smart Movie spinoff. He has appeared in several other films as well with probably more to come. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.48.68.93 (talk) 01:43, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Verb tense

[edit]

Works that exist, such as television shows and films, use the present tense when describing them. Imahara has passed away, but his work continues to exist. Per WP:WAF and MOS:TENSE please continue to use present tense where it is meaningful. Elizium23 (talk) 05:43, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Checked in again; all my work had been unfairly reverted with no discussion. Please adhere to the guidelines of the Manual of Style. Elizium23 (talk) 07:12, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Elizium23: I completely agree with what you've said, and the MoS backs it up, but the sentences I changed all (with the possible exception of Sharknado, which I left) had Imahara himself as the subject. He is not currently hosting a web series, he is not currently a cast member. -- a lad insane (channel two) 02:36, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, so the shows still exist, and should be written about in present tense. If the MoS backs me up, then why do you insist on contravening it? Elizium23 (talk) 03:35, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No. I agreed that when the subject of the clause was the show, present tense was valid. The subject of the clauses I changed were Imahara himself, and the verbs his actions and not the show's. He does not currently host a web series. Would you say he co-hosts MythBusters, as the show still exists? No, at least I'd say he co-hosted it, since he no longer acts on it. The verbs are his actions. -- a lad insane (channel two) 04:17, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lock this article

[edit]

Please lock this article. His picture keeps being replaced with something really disturbing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A211:8880:C980:40EB:E86F:ECE1:673 (talk) 12:20, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I made an account specifically to make this comment - article needs to be locked immediately Wiki-sharkia (talk) 12:25, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article has been now been locked (thankfully), thanks Oshwah! Cyphar (talk) 12:36, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cyphar - No problem; always happy to help. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:40, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. That image was really scary 😭. I don't even watch horror films. RealIK17 (talk) 13:44, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Out of curiosity, what did the vandal replace Grant's picture with, if anyone knows or remembers? Was it a poster for a horror film/game, a bloody Photoshopped face, or something else? --72.234.12.37 (talk) 12:03, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It was just a generic shock image, not really all that creative. Cyphar (talk) 08:20, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Death (currently)

[edit]

Most news sources are mentioning a ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ article as their source for his death from Brain Aneurysm. (Av. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/grant-imahara-dead-mythbusters-host-was-49-1303101) I recommend we wait for a family member or autopsy report statement before updating his cause of death due to the lack of evidence and reliability from The Hollywood Reporter. Jourdainowen (talk) 13:00, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone know if this is in any way related to Covid-19, which has been known to cause brain injuries? 47.148.0.212 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:21, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is not. Doczilla @SUPERHEROLOGIST 02:43, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I know this is not technically the place for this, but felt it the most appropriate place to post this at the moment. While Adam and Jamie are still the originals, Grant, Kari, and Tory have become as much Mythbusters in their own right, and the MB family is most definitely lessened by the loss of any of them. Grant, from one of the many MB fans out there, you are missed. 32.212.102.239 (talk) 04:45, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Savage with heartfelt Grant memories.
