Canoe Marathon[edit]

Im surprised to see that nothing is mentioned about the canoe marathon. Its possibly the largest event Grayling is a major part of... It's mentioned now. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 14:27, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Stan The Annual AuSable Canoe Marathon will be holding its 64th anniversary of the event in July of 2011. The race starts the last full weekend in July on a Saturday at 9:00p.m. The start of the race is at the heart of Grayling at the old Ray's Canoe Livery. It is a shotgun start; the racers run approximately 3 blocks with their canoes and head to the river, jumping in and paddling starts then and doesn't stop for 112 miles. All of this is accomplished during the night and into the next morning, ending in Oscoda between 10:00 -11:30 a.m. A first place record of 13 hours and 58 minutes is standing; first place wins a prize of $5000.00. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3amigosX3 (talk • contribs) 14:47, 28 March 2011 (UTC) ref J. Local Recurring Events[edit]

Fellow Grayling Wikipedians: Help needed. There are many recurring local events. We need to put them in, with explanations as to what they are, dates, places and references. Thank you for any help you can give. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 14:27, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Stan[reply]

The City of Graylng has an annual Christmas walk that takes place the weekend before Thanksgiving. It starts with a parade down mainstreet and Santa Claus is the finale of the event. Local merchants are open later [10:00p.m.]that evening and asked to display strings of white lights on the store fronts. They also have great discounts for your shopping pleasures as well as refreshments, and music. It begins with the annual festival of trees at the Grayling Mini Mall. This event is sponsored by the Grayling Promotional Association (GPA)and has grown over the years. The concept of the festival is that businesses are asked to decorate Christmas trees with imaginative ideas. Most of the trees have a "theme" to them. The public is able to view them over a period of one week and can purchase tickets to vote on their favorite. At the end of the week, a name is drawn from the buckets in front of each tree. That person wins the tree. Also, the tree with the most votes wins over all as the best theme and decorated. Some of the past themes have been patriotic, construction, hair salons, and "good Ole' Fashion". April Bertrum is the contact chairperson for this event. In 2010 over 30 trees were on display3amigosX3 (talk) 15:04, 28 March 2011 (UTC)<ref/ J. Thomson & Grayling Chamber of Commerce>[reply]

Pictures needed[edit]

This article would benefit from some pictures of local events (the Canoe Marathon, perhaps) and local landmarks (the trout). Please help. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 15:25, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Stan[reply]
