Official Page[edit]

So we have two competing URLs for the "official web site": http://gwt.org and http://greatwesterntrail.org. The two sites seem to be similar, though they are in fact completely different servers. The differences are that the former has a navigation bar that the latter does not, and the latter has a forum that the former does not. Behind the scenes, the whois information points at two completely different operations. gwt.org is registered to Great Western Trail in Scottsdale, AZ, and greatwesterntrail.org is registered to Exody Registry Services in Dexter, Georgia. Based on the more extensive information availiable on gwt.org and the registry info, I am inclined to believe that gwt.org is the official website, and the other is a copy. So in the interest of keeping things above board here, I have reverted back to the gwt.org site, and ask that it remain there unless the owner of greatwesterntrail.org can come forth with some bona fides. Great Western Trail official page[edit]

The http://www.gwt.org page has over 50% dead links and has not been updated in over a year. It also ask for donations for what I have not a clue. The new http://www.greatwesterntrail.org official page reflects the actual facts of the trail that exist on the ground today and request input from all interested parties. It will be the authoritative source for the Great Western Trail! Greatwesterntrail 00:27, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any actual indication that its the "official" website, and judging it on its own merits, its just a forum, which is frowned upon by WP:EL. All the states and other links go to http://gwt.org, but you are right, that page hasn't been updated in some time. http://www.utah.com/hike/great_western_trail.htm is a pretty good synopsis, so I'll put it in there instead. - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 16:31, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok for now. We will continue to build the official site which will be more in line with the "multiple use" status of The Great Western Trail". The site you chose has hike in the url were the Great Western Trail has travel modes of hiking, horseback riding, biking, snowmobile riding and atv riding. The readers should clearly see this. ps. I'm not up to speed on wikipedia so pardon my errors. Thanks Greatwesterntrail 18:54, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GWT - Utah & Idaho[edit]

I'm interested in walking from Flagstaff, AZ, to Olympia, WA, and would like to take the GWT pretty far north into Idaho before turning west. Is anybody familiar enough with the trail system in Utah or Idaho to supplement this post? 74.196.16.14 (talk) 19:13, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
