I'll take this one. This looks like a pretty nice article, good job. Burklemore1 (talk) 02:54, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Doing quick checks....

  • Copyvio came up with two sites with 69-70% chance of a violation, but I must note that these pages auto-generate the article itself. See here for the results and see here and here for the pages.
  • The external link "Strong increase in the number of greylag goose in Norway" is dead.
Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:35, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "It is a large bird with mottled and barred grey and white plumage and an orange beak and legs, with a length of between 74 and 91 centimetres (29 and 36 in) and an average weight of 3.3 kilograms (7.3 lb)". No specific problem with this sentence, but I feel like that the word "and" is being used too frequently. I suggest a minor tweak or two.

  • "It is the type species of the genus Anser and is the ancestor of one type of domestic goose, having been domesticated at least as early as 1360 BC." Perhaps you could possibly add a sentence or two about this in the taxonomy section?
Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:52, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "It was first described by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1768 and is the type species of the genus Anser." 1768? The taxobox says 1758 though.
Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:35, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Was Anas anser once considered a distinct species from the Greylag goose? It seems to have a bit of a taxonomic history if it was, so is it possible for a sentence about this taxon and why it was synonymised?
Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:09, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The word "hybridises" should be wikilinked or explained for those who may not be familiar with the word.
Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:49, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The terms "tarsus" "sexual dimorphism", "rump" and "Palearctic" should also be wikilinked.
Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:49, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The sound made by a flock of geese resembles the baying of hounds." What is the baying of hounds?
The sound made by hounds when pursuing their quarry. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:52, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In their winter quarters, they frequent salt marshes...." Typo? Potential grammar problem, sorry.
I'm not sure which word you think is mis-spelled. Should winter quarters have a hyphen?
This is the part I mean, sorry: "They frequent salt marshes". I'm not entirely sure if it's correct or not, but it just looks oddly worded. I may be incorrect, so disregard this comment if I am. Burklemore1 (talk) 09:49, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's correct. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:57, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, no worries. Burklemore1 (talk) 09:58, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see that the article mentions that feral populations have been established elsewhere (I assume outside their natural geographical range), but could we have some further explanation with this? I noticed the image given in the taxobox shows introduced populations in Australia, is there any information on that?
Added. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:20, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The last section in "Distribution and habitat" is unreferenced.
Removed. The information predates our involvement with the article and I could not find a supporting source. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:20, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are many excellent images in this article, yet the behaviour section seems to have none. The images showing the geese in flight or flocking could be added there for a nice illustration.
Moved into that section. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:15, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The nest is on the ground among heather, rushes, dwarf shrubs or reeds, or on a raft of floating vegetation. It is built from pieces of reed, sprigs of heather, grasses and moss, mixed with small feathers and down." Isn't this already discussed?
This is now mentioned only here (and in the lead). Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:41, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The words "gregarious" and "Gauls" should be wikilinked.
Done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:49, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The greylag is one of the last goose species to migrate." This could be further explained. Any reasons as to why, and when do other goose species start to migrate? Infact, when does this goose migrate?
Described in more detail, with better ref. As for why, they just do. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:10, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nice, although you may want to fix the ref up a bit. Burklemore1 (talk) 13:12, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:40, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Some farmers painted the geese's feet with tar and sand to protect them from wear as they walked." Slightly confusing. Protecting them from what exactly? The word "wear" isn't very clear to me.
Said "road wear". Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:15, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Wood engraving "The Tame Goose, Anas anser" Italicise Anas anser.
Done. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:46, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • That is all from me. A very nice article that I look forward on promoting. Burklemore1 (talk) 03:54, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking on this review. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:35, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. All changes to the article are satisfactory and I believe this meets the GA criteria. Good work guys. Burklemore1 (talk) 14:36, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for the review. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:10, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks indeed for the review. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:49, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
