Name Change

[edit]

The Welsh Enclyopedia entry is "Gruffudd ap Llywelyn ap Iorwerth and as we have recently changed his son Llywelyn I propose we change the name through out and rename the article? -----Snowded TALK 08:59, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding his mother

[edit]

The first paragraph of this article’s biography makes the following irreconciliable (and separately, both unevidenced and presently unsourced) claims of fact:

1. this man was born about 1196; and 2. his mother died in childbirth, about 1210.

Which is it?

If the article writers are attempting to communicate his mother died giving birth to someone else e.g. his half- or full-subling, then: I suggest that information needs to be better explained… and/or removed from this man’s biography as it is largely irrelevant to his biography, or at least, certainly unworthy of being in he first paragraph of this man’s lifestory here on Wikipedia. (There are many more relevant and evidenced facts worthy of promotion into the first paragraph summary of his life for posterity.)

If the article writers are attempting to communicate his mother died giving birth to him, then: they need to resolve the problem with the mutually exclusive dating of his birth and his mother’s death presently in the first paragraph of his article.

Family naming inconsistency

[edit]

There seems to be a discrepancy in the variant spelling of the names Gruffudd for Gruffudd ap Llywelyn Fawr and his sons: Owain Goch ap Gruffydd, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, Dafydd ap Gruffydd, Rhodri ap Gruffudd. The older spelling was Gruffudd, and it was altered to Gruffydd in modern times. Any consensus on the redirecting of these articles to a consistent spelling of the family name? Simple amend, Gruffudd was the original name Welsh historians first used for the medieval naming of Griffith(s). Therefore, because this is historical, the articles should be consistent with the older spelling- Gruffudd, not the newer adaptation of of Gruffydd. Done, simple change now in effect.
