I don't understand why it says that the use of lime is a marketing gimmick. If there is any substantiating information of that claim, it needs a citation. But as a half-mexican who goes to mexico all the time, lime is commonly served with beer, not just with Corona, to the taste of the drinker. 13:09, 26 July 2006 (EST)

"In Australia, either a slice of lemon, or a slice of lime are used, depending on what the bar has, and patrons are often given a choice of either lemon or lime [citation needed]."

Don't know how one is supposed to cite this. However take it from an Aussie, it is the case!!

NPOV

[edit]

This article has a lot of POV and fan-like writing. Someone needs to purge it of all 2nd-person writing ("When you buy Corona, you're . . . " and all unsupported claims "It's very popular with the ladies"). — BrianSmithson 01:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah really, that is ridiculous Endos 04:36, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They forget to say that Corona was not a mexican product, it was first made in Puerto Rico til the company went bankrupt and sold to cervezeria modelo...

No, the PR Malta Corona is a different product. Corona Extra has been produced by Grupo Modelo since the mid 1920s and was originally produced for the American Bootleg Beer market. Even then Americans liked lighter Pilsner style Lager where many Mexicans still enjoyed richer Vienna style Lagers.Freddiefreelance 16:16, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I edited this article to remove POV, although additional work needs to be done. I found no supporting links for the Puerto Rico reference, therefore it was not included. Also was unable to find reliable statistics on rank of beer imports.

Hi, MI name is Omar Chavez Treviño, and, as a mexican, I have to point some innacuracies from this article: 1.- Coronita or cuartito it has 190 ml, instead of the 250 ml listed; in México we tend to call cuartito the smallest presentation of beer, and media (halves) to the regular presentation, that it has 355 ml intead of the 500 ml presumed by the name. 2.- I do not have any numbers at hand, but, by experience, you cannot says that the Corona beer is the top one in México. We have a local joke that says: Corona, the top sales world beer... but, not in México regarding to the slogan of the beer, there are far more popular beers. 3.- When talking about the 940 ml presentation, cahuama refers to all brands of beers, but ballena refers solely to Pacifico, so no Corona 940 ml beer is know as a ballena text 4.- The lemon slice in the beer is not a mexican tradition but a tourist one. I have to say that some people of México tend to do than for the U.S. influence (like the lemon and salt with the Tequila), by tomorrow I will be able to post a reference. 5.- The article implies that Corona Light is available in México, wich is complety false, that type of beer is made for the sole porpurse of importation (mostly U.S.), just as the 1 liter (1000 ml) presentation, that cannot be found localy. 6.- The article do not mention about the Corona Ambar (Amber Corona)presentation, wich is kind of rare, in a way, and is sold mostly in Cahuama (940 ml) presentation, by the way, there is no cahuama presentation of the regular Corona. 7.- Corona is a Lager not a Pilsener as the article says, and it is made by Grupo Modelo not byCervecia Modelo, by the way the proper word in spanish will be Cervecería not cervecia, cerveceria means brewery.

As it is said it before this article seem that it was written by a fan of this beer, and somebody that barely knows México.

But not all lagers are pilsners. :P

According to the Grupo Modelo Website, Corona Extra is a pilsner: http://www.gmodelo.com.mx/eng/marcas/corona.html

Comment

[edit]

I heard this beer used to be terrible before Anheuser-Bush bought 49% interest. I heard that the reason for adding lime was because it was so bad but that this has stuck (a Budweiser is not drunk with lime in Mexico, for example). If this can be sourced - and if it is true - it'd be a cool addition here. CyberAnth 05:55, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, this is not true. Mexico has a long history of brewing quality beer that goes back even before the Austro-German brewers arrived with Emperor Maximilian. Adding lemon or lime to beer is a long standing international habit, see Shandy for more info.Freddiefreelance 15:30, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jacques Chirac?

[edit]

It says QEII allows Jacques Chirac to drink Corona at state functions.......... Chirac is French, QEII is British...

Skunky??

[edit]

What do they mean by "beers in clear bottles turn skunky"? Corona with out lemon or lime smells like plain ol' beer to me, meaning no different than how beer generally smells. PeAchBaCon 06:44, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, whats that all about? I was sure it was the fly thing but a MYTH it appears to be! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.159.18.185 (talkcontribs)
