Copyright issue[edit]

The original text before today's edits were almost a direct copy from Om Gupta's book, which is now a reference.

The edit merging copyright text was made 18:25, 18 November 2006 by user Radagast83. However, having said that, Gupta's book was published in 2006, thus I'm not 100% sure which came first. Cheers, --Rayshade (talk) 21:54, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh[edit]

It has been discovered that this book:

Gupta, Om. Encyclopaedia of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gyan Publishing House, 2006. ISBN 8182053897, 9788182053892.

Contains significant amounts of material plagiarized from Wikipedia articles. (Some other books from the same publisher also have this problem). There is no practical way of determining which material came from Wikipedia, and which came from other sources. Further, widespread plagiarism is an indication of poor scholarship. For those reasons, and according to Wikipedia policy, WP:CIRCULAR, I will deleting all citations to the book. However I will not delete the material that cites it, as there's no indication that the material is inaccurate. Description of the Name Gurudongmar[edit]

Gurudongmar is the combination of three Punjabi language Words: Guru + Dang + Mar . Here Guru is referred to Guru Nanak Dev Ji , Dang means "Stick" , Mar means "to put". Earlier this Lake remained frozen for 10 Months of the year and people were in much problem because of non-availability of water. During the 3rd Travel (Total 5 throughout the world) Guru Nanak Dev Ji reached this place and met the people here. People told him their problem and Guru Nanak put the stick into the lake which was in his hand, and gave them the boon that water at this place will never freeze. Moreover there was another problem of before birth death of child due to very cold conditions that was also blesses by Guru Nanak that the any Pregnant lady who will drink water from this place will not loose her child before birth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.12.26.116 (talk) 23:57, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Revert of Lepchav[edit]

User Lepchav removed info, saying, "I have removed a section that has been legally challenged and won. There is no trace of Guru Nanak historically or legally. I don't understand why WIKIPEDIA is endorsing such misinformations." The removal of info seems to me to be a violation of WP:NPOV. Nanak is a historical figure and Lepchav seems to be pushing their point of view that Nanak does not have a historical trace. Therefore I reverted the removal. I also reverted another edit by Lepchav, and am inclined to agree with you Thinker78. The original material was cited, and no counter cite was provided to refute the material, merely a claim. Whether or not Guru Nanak actually existed is irrelevant, the fact that a folkloric tradition exists is important: it is well within the scope of a Wiki article to include cultural traditions or legends about a place. I would argue that the same thing applies for any other historical/religious figure: many have disputed the existence or historicity of figures like Jesus, yet we still write articles about Jesus and mention his legendary tales. Regardless of Guru Nanak's existence, we have a duty to write down the stories about him (which have come from multiple references). Lepchav, if you are reading this: I invite you to find sources regarding your claim, and expand the section, but please don't remove other peoples hard work without cause.Captain Eek ^{Edits Ho Cap'n!} 03:41, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User Lepchav has deleted my reversion, I have posted a warning on their talk page that they are engaged in edit warring and may be reported to the admin edit warring noticeboard. Should I revert Lepchav's last edit? I don't want to further an edit war, but also think that the material shouldn't be removed without cause. Altitude at Gurudongmar lake[edit]

I personally measured the altitude with 2 altimeters and using a Android mobile App. The altitude of the lake surface water was between 16800 to 16920 meters. 117.201.115.219 (talk) 15:11, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
