later electoral record
[edit]I have removed the reference to Adam Price winning Carmarthen East and Dinefwr at the 2001 election. I don't feel especially strongly about this reference one way or the other, though I would suggest that it is not directly relevant to a biography of Gwynfor Evans and would be better placed in the Carmarthen East and Dinefwr article. Price's victory has little to do with Gwynfor Evan's later electoral record. Normalmouth 08:56, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Early life
[edit]I have removed the references to being born into an English speaking family and learning Welsh as an adult. His family attended a Welsh medium chapel all through his childhood, he won competitions in Welsh as a child, his sister has stated that they could all speak Welsh and did. This is hardly an 'English speaking family'! I don't know how this idea that 'he learnt welsh as an adult' started although it has been suggested that he used this claim to try to show that English speakings in Wales could learn Welsh but all of the evidence of his family, his chapel, winning competitions etc show that he did speak Welsh. It has also been claimed that his Welsh wasn't as fluent as it could be, this is likely in the sense that Welsh was a language of the Chapel and the home and he set about improving his Welsh as an adult, but he already spoke enough to be classed as a native Welsh speaker. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.104.164.93 (talk) 01:07, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Date in short description
[edit]@Martinevans123:, I removed the dates from the short description because it appeared that most biographical articles for Welsh people do not have dates in their short descriptions. My immediate motivation was that I was using the {{annotated link}} syntax for a list in Dictionary of Welsh Biography, and I wanted them to look consistent. I have since found the guidance at WP:SDDATES. This supports your revert, so I am content for the date to remain. Verbcatcher (talk) 22:52, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your clear explanation. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:56, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
