English Translation of Name

[edit]

"Höllental" could either be short for "Tal mit mehreren Höllen" (Valley with a number of hells) then the similarly abbreviated translation would be "Hells Valley" or it could be genitiv: "der Höllen Tal", this could be - in slightly outdated - German both, plural or singular, then the similarly abbreviated translation would be "Hell's Valley" or "Hells' Valley". On the contrary the former translation "Hell Valley" would in German be "Hölltal". There are places and canyons in Germany and Austria that have exactly this name. 95.113.239.231 (talk) 08:47, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Löffeltal

[edit]

The Löffeltal has it's name not from carved wooden spoons, but from the forging of metal spoons. These forges were driven by water, which was and is abundant in the narrow Löffeltal, where it was easy to use the steep gradient for water wheels. This forge production stated in the 18th century and ceased at the beginning of the 20th. --84.174.227.97 (talk) 11:24, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
