Currency

[edit]

The first time that a "$" sign appears in the article, it is not made clear whether it refers to New Zealand or U.S. dollars; can this be clarified in line with WP:$? 87.114.131.10 (talk) 07:22, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That should not be necessary. This is an article on a New Zealand topic, not the USA. Based on your logic "$" could also be the Australian dollar. Common sense dictates that it is New Zealand dollar.Royalcourtier (talk) 19:54, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Purchase not influenced by anti-US policies

[edit]

It is true that there was a "deterioration in New Zealand-United States relations" at this time. Actually this is a serious understatement. But this was not a reason to for "the New Zealand government to improve ties with local nations". New Zealand always has had close ties with Australia. What is implied is that NZ bought from Australia rather than from the USA. That is simply not correct, as the USA did not have any suitable new ships.Royalcourtier (talk) 19:53, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Totally agree the "deterioration in New Zealand-United States relations" had nothing to do with the decision of purchasing the ANZAC's. There was a multitude of reasons why NZ went with the ANZAC's. Even the decision to only buy two there is more to it than just budget. There were better options available, however they were never followed up either.
Winston Peter's (the main person to stop the 3rd and 4th frigate) his original idea was to have the navy we have today. He wanted minimum two frigates for international and task force duties and OPV's IPV's for patrol duties. That is what people didn't understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2406:5A00:4816:9600:7954:81A3:3D0B:7F4D (talk) 10:19, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
