Mates..

I am Fred Hurd. I delivered Royal Mail to HMS Cleo in Sasebo Japan about March 1970 or so. She was scheduled to put into port In Yokosuka Japan but was detoured into Sasebo. I was in the US Navy stationed in Sasebo and I met the ship as she tied up in port and delivered the first mail she has recieved in about six weeks as she was underway on Anti Submarine patrol at that time. I was saddened to hear she was sold for scrap but i guess that is the way with all ships in their time. Good memories and she boasted a good crew as well. They were surprised when I met the in port with mail as they didn't know their mail was being diverted to them. Made alot of happy brit Sailors.. Good on all of them lads...Best to all
