Name of ship[edit]

Halley spelled it "Paramore". Are we to assume that he was suffering from ADD, or is the author of this article in error? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.215.115.31 (talk) 19:59, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Both spellings are seen and the spelling of ship names were frequently interchangeable in this period. A wide range of sources use Paramour, including Colledge's Ships of the Royal Navy, the Encyclopedia of Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism, Aubrey's Brief Lives, Willis's Admiral Benbow, Ball's The Great Astronomers, and others. Other variants of ships include HMS Hinchinbrook, which occasionally appears as any one of 'Hinchinbroke, Hinchinbrooke, Hinchingbroke, Hinchingbrook or Hinchingbrooke'.
