Recent addition

This is quite good but can it be cited? It reads a little like a personal memoir. Warlow makes no mention of Ramillies and Malaya as being commissioned as Vernon II. Mason does say Malaya was, but only says of Ramillies that she was used for accommodation and training, but doesn't state where. I'm also intrigued by why the sudden rush to throw all the tools in the sea. Benea (talk) 21:37, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Late 1944/1945 In the latter part of 1944, HMS Ramilles and HMS Malaya were retired from duty at the Normandy landings and were anchored up Portsmouth Creek. There they became known as HMS 'Vernon II' and served as accommodation quarters for ratings undergoing Electrical training. The 6" side armanent was removed and window casements installed. The 15" guns remained in-situ. The area behind these guns was converted into classrooms. One course run was the early part of training for Junior Probationary Electrical Mechanics (JPEM). That was then followed by the later part at Lyndhurst in the New Forest. This arrangement continued on into 1945 but suddenly came to an end in mid-September 1945 when all ratings on the course were drafted back to HMS Royal Arthur for re-mustering. There was a hurried work to strip the work benches in the 15" magazines and all consumable tools such as files, hammers, etc were discharged overboard into the briny. As accommodation ships they were grossly overcrowded.

Vernon ships sports were held early in September on the sports field at Vernon itself.

Ramilles and Malaya were de-commissioned.

Addition of WWII and SciTech task forces

I have added the page to the WWII and SciTech task forces; the former should not be such a contentious classification, but the latter I have added as the establishment played a significant role in the R&D of mine and anti-mine warfare during WWII, for which King George VI visited the facility following the successful capture and investigation of a German magnetic mine early in the war. — Sasuke Sarutobi (talk) 20:11, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
