Review

[edit]

As the years go by it seems less appropriate to offer a blow by blow account of (a selection of)past reorganisations and appointments and I wonder whether what we need now it a brief-ish summary of the main issues surrounding NOMS to date - eg repeated re-structurings, domination of prisons by probation, loss of localism, false starts in developing competition and so on. Also something on how well it is currently doing its job - are our prisons and communtiy services good, bad, indifferent? What is their impact on crime, if any?

Oh dear. I found almost all that completely unintelligible! I do wish Wiki had not become a sort of private world with its own language. It makes one - or at least, me - feel I'm not an initiate and had better leave it to those who are. And it's so unnecessary - one can self publish a book on Amazon in a much more straightforward way. Complete re-write needed!

[edit]

This page is dead. It is not about HMPPS at all but a truncated history of the preceding organisation created years ago that no longer exists. Eg the list of chief execs is for the preceding outfit - not the current one. We need a totally new page about HMPPS and if you like, a separate one about the history of NOMS, or alternately ,make this page about 'Prison and probation services in England and Wales'. Views?
