Tips and Tricks[edit]

If anyone thinks, this section is inapropriate for an article, please change the section, but please don't remove it! It took me long to figure out, why it was virtually impossible to configure the networking capabilities of the printer, and I could'nt find any usful information anywhere else on the net.

What type of RAM?[edit]

Do the 5 series use proprietary RAM modules or can some type of standard desktop PC RAM be used? The LaserJet 4, 4M and 4+ use standard non-parity, 72 pin SIMMs *without presence detect*. Presence detect can be removed simply by de-soldering the 'zero ohm resistors' or breaking them off with a pair of pliers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bizzybody (talkcontribs) 05:40, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After some tests the Laserjet 5P only accepts 72pin memory with parity. These normally either have 9-chips or 12-chips (16MB) or 18/24-chips (32MB). The modules used for the tests had correct presence detect settings measured by SimmCheckII from Innoventions Inc. A correct working type of module on the 5P was the following (not excluding other well working configurations): SIMCHECK TEST LOG My Company Name From SIMCHECK II s/n #12826 Firmware Version 1.55 Started: Sat May 14 11:30:22 2011 BASIC TEST: TEST AT 5V

For the Laserjet 5 series, the 72-pin SIMMs must also be 32-bit, no parity, with presence detect enabled, and 70ns or slower. HalifaxRage (talk) 21:19, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
