"Santa Claus" urban legend
[edit]The "Sundblom/Coca-Cola created the image of the modern Santa Claus" line is an urban legend. I have revised it out of this entry, and provided an informative link to SNOPES. I mention it here to make sure that no one re-inserts it in the future. --158.80.0.2 23:27, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
Height vs. premature birth
[edit]I've been unable to verify the following statement:
- He grew to at least six feet tall, despite having been born approximately three weeks too early.
Please provide a citation here that supports this if it gets re-inserted.

In regards to your article on 'Haddon Sundblom'. Haddon in his later years was a friend of mine. He and I both had studios at 21 E. Van Buren in Chicago Il. Haddon's was on the 4th flr. and I was on the fifth floor. Our landlords were the Paulist Fathers.
You talked about Sonny posing for Santa himself, that's true. In later years he used the salesman for the studio I was with, his name was Frank Baker. I know this for a fact because I was the one who took the photos he used for the Coke ads in his later years. If you dressed Frank up in a Santa costume he looked just like Coke's Santa.
Once he asked me for my opinion on a painting he was doing for the Kentucky state house. The next day when I saw the painting he had changed everything that I said I liked.
One day we went to the Art Institute for lunch. He said we'll show each other our favorite painting. He and I both thought Bertha Morrisat's painting was our favorite.
I was in his studio once when a delivery guy brought in a wooden crate from one of the womens' magazines. We opened it and Sunny pulled out an illustration painting he'd done for them in his typical slash and burn style. It was beautiful. I'd never seen painting like that before. It was from the height of his career. It is a shame illustration had to disappear. We always looked forward to what the Illustrators were doing next. Those were the good old days!
Sincerely, Don Mally (16:58, 16 May 2009 99.55.95.212)
