Roger's Age[edit]

  • In Lion Adventure, Roger's age is quoted as 13. I'm not sure if or when he turns 14 during the course of the series. If anybody can find a quote in one of the novels, just let me know.

Lion Adventure:
Chapter One: Man-eater Wanted:
(third paragraph)
"His brother, thirteen-year-old Rogr, agreed - not because he was a heavy thinker - he wasn't - but it sounded like an exciting adventure."

For now, I'll change the profile box to age 13 until someone can quote me otherwise... Ackatsis 02:45, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strangely enough, Amazon Adventure seems to imply that Roger is older than thirteen, even though the Amazon trip came well before Tsavo National Park.
It says that Hal was "finished with school and about to go to college," and that Roger was "four years younger than his brother." I'm now thoroughly confused, though I'm sticking with thirteen for now, since it's the only specific age I've found! Ackatsis 02:45, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, Roger's fourteen in South Sea Adventure (the second book). The character seems to be going backwards in age! Which value am I supposed to quote? Ackatsis 02:48, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • In Underwater Adventure, Roger is quoted as being simply "in his early teens," by Whale Adventure he has swung back to being "as big and tough as his thirteen years would permit." Considering the series takes place in chronological order, I don't know what's going on... Ackatsis 02:52, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • clearly an error on the authors part.Nubula 17:15, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Willard Price was getting quite old at the time, I think... I suppose it could also be a publishing error. But what do we quote for Roger's age? Ackatsis 00:03, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • I'd go with thirteen as that appears to be the most consistant age. Also I don't think Willard Price's age had much to do with it. Most people when creating an expanded universe make minor continuety errors, just look at the conflicting statments Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle ect made when dealing with their characters. Nubula 13:48, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
          • Yeah. My accusation was somewhat unfair towards Willard Price, considering I hold his adventure novels in such high regard! I'll go through the books to ensure that 13 is the most consistent age. Ackatsis 01:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Amazon Adventure: Hal was "finished with school and about to go to college," and that Roger was "four years younger than his brother."
  • South Sea Adventure: 14 years old
  • Underwater Adventure: Early teens
  • Volcano Adventure: Doesn't specify
  • Whale Adventure: 13 years old
  • African Adventure: 13 years old
  • Elephant Adventure: Doesn't specify
  • Safari Adventure: 13 years old
  • Lion Adventure: 13 years old
  • Gorilla Adventure: 14 years old
  • Diving Adventure: Doesn't specify
  • Cannibal Adventure: 14 years old
  • Tiger Adventure: 14 years old
  • Arctic Adventure: Doesn't specify (though Hal has progressed to 20 years)

It's your call! Ackatsis 01:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • Mmm. Its a tough call and unless you count Early teens as being 13 its 4/4 for age consistancy. Maybe it'd be best to go with 14 as that was his age when it was mentioned for the last time (Tiger adventure) although by this logic we'd have to up Hal's age up to 20 as that was his age in his final appereance. Nubula 11:08, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I just finished reading 'Arctic Adventure.' My mistake: Roger is actually cited as 15 years old in that one... Ackatsis 21:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Its been a long time since I read the books, but I do remember at the time spotting inconsitencies in the character's age (as well as thinking it unlikely that the whole series could take place within the course of one year). I think this is a good example of why Wikipedia fiction articles should be written from a real-world perspective. We don't have to argue about what Rogers real age is - just state what ages the books give, and let the inconsistencies be plain. Wardog (talk) 16:32, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merlin Kaggs[edit]

  • I was thinking that Kaggs should have a section dedicated to him. But do you think he should get his own page or would it be better to add it into the enemies section on this one? Nubula 15:28, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • If you're willing to start up a new article on Merlin Kaggs, I say go ahead! He certainly plays a significant role in the series, and he's got plenty of back-story. Good idea! Ackatsis 05:28, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Done. Feel free to change any mistakes I've made. Nubula 16:44, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
